Don't hold back, tell us what you really think, Bob.Yea! Game changer. NCAA Final Fours - here we come come.
TBH, hope attendance this year mirrors the engagement on this Board. I even hope the students stay away and do their homework. Screw this program - the admin doesn't care, why should anybody else? Any before somebody says some participation trophy bullshit about the kids, there are plenty of high school teams far more worthy. And only 24 hours in the day. So this program deserves exactly what it gives - not a gd thing.
You couldn't be more wrong, but you usually are! This guy?
He's an unranked recruit from the NEPSAC?

Probably had no idea we had a recruit or it would have been the perfect opportunity to take another shot at CCC. A recruit with minor offers is gold, almost as much as Big Matt putting up a triple double.Don't tell me that discussion on hoops is no longer to be had on the free board.
The free board isn't really dominated by negative Nellies. I think the majority are realistic about the state of the program, but choose to blame different things (or people). With a couple negative nellies dominating this board, why would anyone want to interact? I find it curious that a few "fans" have CCC automatically gone after this year. He has three years left on his deal, right? I can't recall an NU coach fired with more than a year left on his contract. Meanwhile, it seems like the coaching staff is working per normal, getting some looks at least from some decent recruits, not like the two dogs O'Neill signed at the end of his tenure who were the worst scholarship players I have ever seen at NU (Fortunately, they left early, unlike the infamous Johnny Vassar). If Collins can produce a competitive season in the rugged Big Ten with an extremely tough conference draw, I doubt Gragg will pull the plug unless he's got some redhot candidate ready to take on what might be the toughest job in Division One hoops. Just my two cents, which may be all its worth.
That's certainly the attitude that some share.Don't tell me that discussion on hoops is no longer to be had on the free board.

Sounds good. Guess we will see how this and all the other thoughts and predictions age. I will say I’m surprised by the number of departures - I expected a couple more. So who knows - maybe this will be a record shattering season…With a couple negative nellies dominating this board, why would anyone want to interact? For those interested in recruiting scoops, I can understand paying for that sort of insider reporting.Yeah, sure, the only reason the board died is because the team is bad.
ECat, if this single thread doesn't answer your question, I don't know what will. You've been around here long enough to understand this is just one of many bad periods for the program in the Internet age. Unfortunately, it's the norm rather than the exception.
And yet somehow the discussion has changed.
But let's keep pretending the dead discussion is only a result of the bad team. That answer is almost as simplistic as the wash-rinse-repeat ... and repeat ... and repeat agendas.
I'd love to continue the discussion, but it's not happening here. Any ideas? If somebody wants to try this again on Reddit, speak up. I'd be game.
I think Gragg put Collins on public notice and unless CCC can do something he hasn’t done for five years (play in a post season tournament), I suspect Gragg will pull the trigger. Therefore I don’t think most folks are going to get too excited about recruiting commitments from kids who may never come to Evanston.

This statement from Gragg makes me think that:What makes you think that? I think I'm missing something here.
Yep. I cannot remember an NU Athletic Director EVER making such a strong statement about a head coach. This statement from Gragg makes me think that:
As our Wildcats enter the offseason, we are committed to evaluating all aspects of the program on and off the court to ensure we are supporting this team with the foundation necessary to compete and win in the nation’s best college basketball conference. I have tasked Coach Collins with making necessary changes to build towards success in the 2022-23 campaign.”

I understood the membership fee for those who wanted insider content on recruiting as it is work for Lou and others to gather all of that. But the message board was always one big, happy NU family. The more recent push to move most of the talk to the Rock is disappointing as it does splinter our community as you mention. To me, the content was always secondary to the NU community that has been built here. That is the part I value. I am sorry to see that erode the way it has.For those interested in recruiting scoops, I can understand paying for that sort of insider reporting.
But paying just to participate in any discussion related to our athletics programs? No, I won't be doing that. It was never that way until very recently, and frankly, fan opinions aren't worth paying to read. Neither are my opinions, but I'll gladly share them freely.
Some people just have an inflated opinion of their own rhetoric and we are deemed unworthy to partake in their wisdom.
Mentions all aspects, the foundation, and building toward success. Nothing about making the postseason. Northwestern does things differently as we all know. I think Fitz sums it up best around the 4:00 mark in the linked video: “if I am only evaluated based on 12 days in the fall, that would be pretty shallow”.

OTOH, a 32 game data set for hoops is a pretty deep dive......I think Fitz sums it up best around the 4:00 mark in the linked video: “if I am only evaluated based on 12 days in the fall, that would be pretty shallow”.
When people write "I'm not going to get too excited about any recruits for the 2023-2024 season, because Collins' job situation makes any recruiting commitments meaningless" (or words to that effect)...I'm most intrigued by this comment (not just because the rest of the thread has devolved into another indictment of CCC and not been focused on said recruit).
Maybe this kid is a steal?
Here's his profile, 16 offers, though none from another Power 5.
Some quotes from his coach can be found here, seems like maybe he's under the radar due to COVID? Had a really good spring, so stock is rising:

Jordan Clayton 6’2 Combo Guard 2023 (Mass Rivals/Bradford Christian Academy): Clayton provides value both on or off the ball. When directing the offense, he creates lane penetration effectively with a sharp crossover move. Has a soft mid-range pull-up in the lane when defenders collapse on him. Also uses his good vision to find teammates for open three-pointers on drive and kicks. Clayton is productive when playing as a wing with his shooting ability from beyond the arc. Makes treys at a solid rate on standstill attempts or when coming off screens. Generates high percentage layup opportunities for himself, frequently making quick cuts to the hoop at the right time. Defensively, Clayton can guard both 1s and 2s with his strength, length, and lateral quickness.
I suspect NU will continue along that path.Northwestern already "did things differently" by not firing him after last season.
My extrapolation is that unless Collins has a winning season and gets into at least the NIT, he will not have “built toward success in the 2022-23 season.” He will, instead, have built toward his sixth straight year of no post season play. You are certainly free to come up with your own definition of “successful season.” But I’m willing to bet a tiny sum of money (because I’m a cheapskate) that if Collins doesn’t at least get into the NIT, he’s gone.Mentions all aspects, the foundation, and building toward success. What a rise Jordan Clayton had this spring. Ultimate utility guard who impacts the game across the board.
With no evidence, only opinion, I suspect that Gragg will let Collins' contract ride and then replace him rather than firing him. Unless this season is a total collapse (or an amazingly awesome season), he'll have another statement next year about seeing some improvement in some aspects, but he wants to see more, and then after the next year he'll officially start the search to coincide with Collins' contract ending. This statement from Gragg makes me think that:

Time will tell. And he might surprise us with a better than recent history season. I'm always rooting for that.
Final rankings are not out for 2023, but maybe Collins saw something. Stars do not mean much, but.....Wrong about what?
According to the article, he's an unranked recruit from the NEPSAC.
So that leaves... "Its tough to take recruiting too seriously when Collins is 50/50 to be here."
Hopefully you can comprehend that I mean "when the 2023 recruits show up." (We all know that Collins is currently the coach).
Or do you just knee-jerk scream "You're wrong" and wet your pants whenever I post anything at all?
