In the offseason Stanford lost three guys who were expected to start in the secondary. Alex Carter (CB) declared for the draft, Wayne Lyons (CB) transferred to Michigan (and is considered their best NFL prospect), and Zach Hoffpauir (safety) got drafted in the MLB draft and signed with the Diamondbacks. They also lost starter Jordan Richards (safety) to graduation and are only returning Ronnie Harris (CB). I'm expecting a run-heavy offense from NU but that will hopefully help our passing game in the opener.

Stanford also lost OT Andrus Peat to the draft and he went in the first round but held onto QB Kevin Hogan who had been rumored as a potential entry to the draft or 5th-year transfer.

Here's the thing. Although our O line is a bit untested because of graduation and people moving, we did show that we could run the ball last year. I think with another year the Jackson, Long and hopefully Anderson can put up yards. What we don't know is what our passing game will be like. I assume like everyone else that Thorson will prove to be the best man after summer camp. If he can run and pass if even for 200 yards a game, we can be good this year!

Controlling the ball through the run game will also help keep our defense of the field a bit...hopefully resulting in a fresher unit come the fourth quarter. Would love to see our defense put teams away late - that's when we'll know our defense has truly turned the corner.

Not sure whether this is ironic or not, but ESPN just put out a piece saying mostly the same thing. Stanford doesn't return a lot of experience, but seem to have a good shot at reloading instead of rebuilding.

On the flipside, Stanford's offense looks pretty stacked, though they did lost their biggest playmaking threat in Ty Montgomery. For a team that likes to run as much as the Cardinal, it's fascinating to me that they only have three scholarship RBs with any experience on the roster (and one is Christian McCaffrey, who spends a good amount of time in the slot). I guess they could be counting on contributions from one of the three RBs they signed in 2015.

I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot of the former NU recruit out of Indiana Remound Wright...will be interesting to see how he fairs against our defense.
