I loved those comments with Braun looking to the future when you posted them after the game on Saturday.
I thought that Braun would be overmatched this season, both with the jump to a new level and especially with the new and unplanned responsibilities. I think he said as much after the Rutgers game — that, whoaaaaa baby, coordinating a defense and head coaching a team are tough to do simultaneously. I sensed in his early season comments that he was reluctantly taking on the role.
But I love the way he’s talking today, about a future at NU and opening a new stadium and him leading the way when NU does. (I doubt this has come from any ‘vote of confidence’, just from his own trust in himself.)
I don’t need any $90 million dollar Mel Tucker extension, but I think it would be great if NU could remove the interim tag in-season. That’d be a huge leap, but I hope he’s building some confidence among NU’s many, many factions of leadership.
Braun’s predecessor took over the job in similarly strange and unprecedented circumstances, and had more sustained success at NU and win more games than any coach in program history.
Maybe Braun can effectively replace the legend.
