How many days has it been since he took the Gators gig? Since then, Florida has offered Fenwick's DJ Steward, Adam Miller from Morgan Park and Max Christie from Rolling Meadows who Joe Henricksens calls the best freshman in the state.

Did we have offers out to them? Could they pass our admissions?

I don't think it's a statement about NU. I just thought it was interesting. Obviously, they are guys high on Gates radar and I assume NU was at least watching them.

And you're right: I'm sure there is a consideration for academics at Florida vs. NU. Gates' job probably became a whole lot easier in that sense.

NU has offered Steward. Obviously, they have a good relationship with Fenwick so far.

As for Miller, I haven't seen an offer from NU.

Christie? It's early.

NU is reported to have offered Isaiah Stewart from Indiana. Name is similar to the Fenwick young man but not the same.
We are recruiting DJ. And he would be an enormously important get. Like "highest-rated recruit in school history" important. We've been on him since the beginning of his recruitment and have a great relationship with Fenwick and coach Malnati. It'll be difficult to pull him away from the "big-name" schools, but it's not a pipe-dream.

And the light bulb JUST went off in my head. Making Tino a walk-on wasn't just about Collins having great taste in pizza ...

Malnati steps down as the coach of Fenwick today.

Wouldn't be the worst idea, would it?
I think it kind of would be. It's important that the staff has diversity. I don't just mean racial diversity, although that's very important (NU already has a reputation of being a tough place for an African-American student to fit in, but can you imagine the negative recruiting if we don't have even one Black assistant coach?) I also mean that we already have a staff full of guys who came up in the Chicago suburbs, particularly the North Shore. I'd like to see that balanced out with either a city guy or someone from another part of the country with different connections and a different background.

What about if it meant landing DJ Steward? On the whole, however, I'd agree.

That would certainly add a new wrinkle, but i'm always a little uncomfortable hiring a coach just to get one guy. It seems like a desperate, short-term move, and not the kind of thing NU does. That is not a shot at all at Coach Malnati, who would probably be a great addition to any staff that does not already have a bunch of guys just like him.

Wasn't so concerned about the loss of Gates (good promo for him and CC will hire a good replacement, if not someone already affiliated w/ the staff) aside from it likely being more competition for Chicago-land recruits (not that NU will be able to recruit all the players that UF will be able to recruit).
