The last number eight seed to win the NCAA tournament

Remember it well. I brought my b&w tv set and watched it at the Patten front desk with just about everybody in the gym. My friends back in Philly went crazy.

Remember it well too - my senior year. We'd had a little success (NIT) in 82-83, Welsh-Ryan was still brand new, and I thought we'd get there sometime soon. I certainly thought it would be tough with Bob Strotz running the shop, but I'm glad I didn't know then how long it would take.

BTW Smithee, that NIT year was the last Cat season to feel magical. Getting on the El. Playing at DePaul. Gaddis and Stack. You are dead on that it felt like we were turning the corner.
