Ok, so I went into the seat selection process and can see all the seats, and their numbers of the new arena. A few interesting things
1. They have one section that is W/C but not with the high donation or ticket price. I think that ticket price is only $1,200 per ticket, as opposed to $1,700. And the Donation is less than that of the W/C proper. Must mean a higher demand for W/C

2. ADA seating is about 150 total. 75 upper, 75 lower approx.

3. Drink Rails in the last row of some sections offer an interesting seat in the lower and upper sections.

4. I counted approx. 5,500 total seats, including ADA, and media section. That's it. Add on student sections in lower bowl which are not included.

So, if you assume 1,200 students (I counted the non labeled seats and seemed to come up with 600 behind each basket), then the total is 6,700 as Willycat said and the drawings said. Toss in security, janitorial, and the ref table and vendors and I'm guessing 7,200 total persons in the building?

same number, as it's comparable. I rounded off to 7,200 but I couldn't actually get the 'official' count on the students. It appeared to be around 600 as a best guess behind each basket. I didn't see Morty say that anywhere officially, which I would have known, it would have saved me about 30 minutes.

I like 7,039. Gonna be a raucous place! And plenty of room with the extra bathrooms, open concourses, etc. Similar to DePaul in seat size which sucks just a bit but better than benches.

Morty said he picked 7,039 to commemorate the 1939 NCAA final held at Patton Gym. As reported by Teddy G:

Now Northwestern’s president makes the trek from Evanston to Rosemont in rush-hour traffic to watch the Wildcats take on Saint Peter’s. And it was Schapiro who recently determined what the seating capacity will be at the new Welsh-Ryan Arena, set to open next fall.

The number: 7,039.

Why those final two digits? Oregon won the first NCAA basketball tournament. It took place at Evanston’s Patten Gymnasium. In 1939.

“It could have been a couple below or above,” Schapiro said. “I figured: Let’s make it 7,039 so we’ll always remember where we started from.”

When do the folks in Group 1 start making their seat selections? I'm in Group 2; slated for a week from Tuesday (the 13th).

My guess is that it goes by Tiers of giving?? Thus far, nobody has gone but my guess is that it starts on Monday. I go on Wednesday, 10:30am. I picked Group 1.
But I think there is a tier level of those of us in Group 1. Who knows?

Why did you title this thread that official seating was 5,500? Still posting attention-seeking fake news again?
