Then there are the three Oklahoma State players who have tested positive for the coronavirus in their first week on campus.

there will be a $ea$on. Budgets depend upon it. Social distancing out the window. Much of this has been a hoax and strictly political. It makes absolutely no sense to wear a mask in public places when the science doesn't add up. The CDC has gotten political. I'm not a big WHO fan, but at least they are using science and confirm that mask do little to no good at all.

As more science is involved, fans will be back in the stands as well. Unfortunately, science will continue to be scammed by politics. But college football is MONEY, so there will be a season.

This appearance on my lawn this week may portend even a winning season for the Wildcats:

And the goal posts will be at the east and west ends of the earth.

I used to be way more into the Who - saw them live in 1989 and even though they were past their prime, it was still a good show. I was pretty far away, so I'm not sure if Pete and Roger were wearing masks.

If this is still part of your attention-seeking act that you play on these boards all the time, then this is really a stupid thing to try and get attention with. If its not, then god help us. At least people on here know better than to listen to you anymore.

Sorry Turk but just about everything you said was a HOAX but the corona-virus certainly was not!

Free your mind. Come to the premium board. Troll free (for the most part). Lots of great football and recruiting conversation.

Yes and no buddy! Why did 10 inmates die at Statesville and Cook County jail in the last two months? Why did dozens of people die in nursing homes in Woodridge and in Washington state? Why are so many getting sick and dying in ERs? Likely because the virus can travel airborne and is spreading in notoriously unclean places. Just my theory. But I do believe that we are putting children at risk by not making sure that have good hygiene and the schools can be safely cleaned.

Let's wait and see how many parents will send their kids to study in small classrooms and live in crowded dorms.
The issue on returning to college in person is so difficult. I am both a parent of a college student and a faculty member at another. The bottom line is everyone wants kids to return to campus. The kids want it because that is the true college experience. The colleges want it because its killing them to lose out on the revenue. The faculty want it because its easier and more effective to do things in person. So, everyone wants to plan as if the kids can come back and are hoping like crazy that they can.

But.... the reality is that no one really knows yet what will happen no matter what they announce today. If things are as bad in September as they are still now in many parts of the country, there is simply no way schools can pull this off. IF things continue to improve as they have in some other parts of the country (here in CT we have had single digit positive test rates for a couple weeks now, and yesterday and today the rate was 2-3%), then it may be possible. We really won't know for sure until August and even then, things could change very quickly causing everyone to have to leave again.

It sucks, but that's what it is. The key is to do everything we can now to reduce case numbers this summer so that we are in a great place by the fall. That means social distancing. That means sheltering in place unless it's absolutely necessary to go out. And, as annoying as it may be, keep wearing those masks. Some estimates I've seen say the masks reduce the risk of transmission by as much as 50%. This is a numbers game. Every little effort by all of us helps us keep ahead of the numbers.

Iowa State wrestler, Austin Gomez's dad has Covid 19 and is in serious condition. I just see a Domino effect. Lots of guys having Covid 19 and overwhelming the system!

Just announced five Alabama players returning to campus have tested positive.
That follows yesterday's announcement that three Oklahoma State players have tested positive for the corona-virus. Can't imagine what the numbers would be if there were 12,000, 20,000 or 30,000 kids on campus. Without a cure , I just can't see this happening.

Willycat! You are absolutely right! An 8 year old girl died of COVID 19 on Monday in North Carolina. There is no way we don't have dozens of coaches/offensive or defensive lineman get seriously ill from Covid-19 by November 1st. Further, noone is going to give a care about sports, when children can't be safe at school. Just a complete mess,I'm afraid. Massive layoffs and budget cuts coming soon.

For those trying to project ahead we do have the luxury of being able to check what is happening in those countries that were exposed before us, beginning with China and then Korea, Japan and even Italy.

Umm, new COVID cases are accelerating in Florida. Today, Florida set a new one-day record of 1419 new cases. Only 43 new deaths, though.

You need to check the number of tests performed....here in NC the number of cases continues to rise but so do the number of tests. The % positive is stable at 7% for the last 3 weeks, yesterday set a new record for daily tests at just under 20,000 with 6% positive.

Out of the ~95 or so? That would be generally consistent with the overall positive test rate in the general population.

I imagine those kids were asymptomatic.
The problem though is that if they have worked out with the team, then that entire group of 95 plus coaches and staff are now in their social group and need to be isolated.

Yes, there are more cases because of the data of more testing. But the science is clear, there is now no indications that hospitals will be overrun, in fact, things are looking better than we could have anticipated. I'm guessing that football capacities are 25% due to politics but our scientific experts have addressed the situation and we are now prepared for any renewed dangers and with the aggressive vaccine policies, we should be in great shape for those who want a vaccine in a few short months. Stop fear mongering Glades, you watch too much CNN.
Separately, the economic data and other science also indicates the anticipated V shape economic boom. Country is healing, coming together in unity and, separately, those protesters will get our country on the right track to scale back police powers. Good shape all around! Sunny and 70!

I would assume they got tested first thing upon return
Here is the scoop from NBC Sports:

After being allowed to by the SEC, Alabama football players began returning for voluntary on-campus workouts Monday. Four days later, it’s now being reported that at least five Alabama football players have tested positive for COVID-19.

All of the Crimsin Tide players who tested positive are asymptomatic. Based on protocol, all of those have been isolated from the rest of the team. Al.com wrote that “[a]t least one of the players who tested positive for COVID-19 was in attendance for player-led workout sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday.” Obviously, the players involved have not been named publicly.

And this is the problem. It will likely be going on all across the country as larger and larger groups start coming back together.

Aha! I haven't checked the testing intensity yet but that likely explains the slight divergence between cases and deaths per day.

Unfortunately, I've looked for 20 minutes now and I cannot find a chart that shows changes in daily testing levels over time, only total tests over time and they don't show any upward bend except a brief period around May 17-24. Arcgis hasn't updated its weekly testing data for Florida in a month. I can find daily test levels, just no comparisons between dates. We're getting about 2% positive tests as of yesterday. Cases and deaths seem to be diverging though.
