EVANSTON-The career of redshirt freshman quarterback Clayton Thorson is off and running after a a 16-6 upset of Stanford.

Philip Straus' story: Off to a flying start

Lou,
Thrilled with the win, but let's keep it real for a moment. Can't really say Thorson got off to a "flying start", unless your talking about the passes "flying" all over the place and not into our receivers hands. We're lucky 3 of 4 weren't picked off, and the big completion was a tremendous catch by Schuler. The team played great, but the game was won by the Defense and Justin Jackson. Big fan of the kid, who looks like a gamer and great runner, but looks like he needs some serious work with his accuracy. I guess you can chalk it up to first game jitters and all, but hope it comes around before conference games start. If not, they'll pack the box and make it tough sledding. If he developes in the passing game, this could be an exciting year!
P.S. The guy who was really "flying" was #18. The kids a stud at MLB. Go Cats!
