This performance was awful. The last three halves of basketball have been ugly. The guys look — and are — gassed. And simply put, the team just cannot shoot like that (horrific from 3), with that sort of performance from Chase, and beat anyone in the conference.

This is now a losing streak, and it could spiral out of control. Losing both games to an unexceptional Michigan squad hurts. The path to the tourney is still viable, but it’s harder. This loss introduces increased pressure. Let’s see how this team responds. They need to rest up, shake off these two L’s, and reset. Get back to basics on D, and pray the cold shooting stops.

My inner cynic and beaten down NU fan wants to say “ok, here’s the meltdown we were all waiting for” and brace for a brutal finish to the season. I can’t help it. But this team has earned more faith, up to this point. We’ll see. Go ‘Cats.

I don’t remember every beat of 2017 like I do about the ‘95 team, but didn’t something similar happen: we got excited, then we lost some winnable games, and then we regrouped to win a few, punctuated by Tap-to-Pardon? It can still happen.

Big road win at…Wisconsin was a crucial moment that season. Not prepared to call Sunday’s game in Madison a must win, but getting at least one of the next two would be really nice.
Getting one of the next 2 is critical. Can’t go into the Purdue and Indiana games on a 4 game skid as we’re not going to win both of those. Being 7-8 going into the last 5 with Illinois, Maryland and Rutgers on the road would be very bad.

We lost to a 3-8 Illinois team at home right about this time in 2017, then followed that up with a big road win at … Wisconsin.

We only won 3 of the last 8 in the regular season that year, which included the buzzer beater. This league gets enough respect that we’ll hover around the bubble as long as it doesn’t totally fall apart. And if it does, well, we weren’t really a tournament team anyway.

I have no idea what is going to happen other than we’re going to go to the dance and have a good year. But I do know we can win - are a serious threat to win - every game left on our schedule including the big ten tournament. This is a hell of a ride.

Every team but one ends the year with either failure or a loss in college basketball. That moment is overwhelmingly likely to come at some point for the Cats. But man are we having fun until then.
