Top targets take notice of NU's new commitments

Interesting that it sounds like it's not an either/or proposition with THT and Kopp. As I've posted before, I would have thought it would be one of them plus a Lindsey-esque guard. Then again, we don't have any offers out to SGs beyond Finke, who doesn't seem like a realistic option, so I guess that shows the staff's intent.

Doesn't Gaines sort of fill that roll?

Yes, but it's just building balanced classes. Right now we have Mac/Lindsey/Ash/Brown/Gaines on the roster (in order of seniority for scholarship players). Next season it's Ash/Brown/Gaines/Lathon. So there's an extra slot available in the guard rotation.

I'm under the impression that AJ Turner is more of a wing/3 than a SG/2. If he fits that Lindsey mold, then probably no need for another one in this class. And that would open another spot in the wing rotation.

For what it's worth, 247 has Kopp as a SG, while THT and Saddiq Bey (who we haven't updates on in a little while) in the same position group as Nance. There's also Dwayne Cohill, who they have as a combo guard, but the early noise we heard on him has died down. If only Ayo decided he wanted to focus exclusively on being a 2-guard!

Anyway, analyzing the roster this way, I could be talked into taking another mobile big to go along with Pardon and Benson. That would likely lead us in the direction of Riley Battin, based on current offers.

Have we ever been so lucky with such an embarrassment of riches? From top to bottom, the roster will eventually have legit Big Ten players. And we're only getting a taste of what it could be with a few more NCAA appearances. Exciting and dizzying.

I didn't even mention another year of Skelly, two more years of Law and Pardon, three more of Falzon and four of Ivanauskas!

I'm feeling a dogfight for playing time starting this year - and that can only make everybody better. I'm high on Benson and Brown making big leaps this year. I still can't get over that silky smooth little hook shot Benson laid on that Vandy center from the bottom of the key (whose name escapes). That guy is a good defender and he was powerless to stop that shot. And Brown is simply electric, a guy you just can't take your eyes off of.

Can't wait for next year!

BMac, Lindsey, Law and Pardon all averaged 30+ mpg last season. It is difficult to imagine any of their minutes going down (without sickness or injury) unless one or more of the backups simply TAKES the minutes from them.

Things are wide open at the big forward position (call it what you will) with Falzon, Ivanauskas and Skelly all competing to round out the starting five and basically replace Lumpkin/Taphorn.

Brown, Gaines and Benson will all have significant roles to play...but they will have to fight and prove themselves to get anywhere near the 15 mpg that Brown averaged last season. (Apologies to Ash, Hall and Malnati, but I just don't seriously see them in the mix.)
