The Cats’ Diamond teams had a tough Saturday. Softball ran into a Nebraska buzzsaw, getting run ruled in 5 innings in a 11-1 beat down. The Huskers were led by pitcher and hitter extraordinaire Jordy Bahl, who leads the Huskers in batting with a .451 average, and is now 18-4 in the circle with an era under 1.33. Bahl was 3 for 4 today with 5 RBIs. A native Nebraskan, Bahl played two years for the Oklahoma Sooners, leading them to two Nattys, before transferring to Nebraska. Out last season with an injury, Bahl has returned with a vengeance.

Baseball fared little better, getting run ruled by MSU in 8 innings by a 10-0 score. The Cats kept the game close through 5, and with Sparty coming to bat in the bottom of the 6th, the game was still scoreless. That didn’t last very long after MSU came to bat and plated 6 runs before an out was recorded.

Oh well, as Scarlett O’Hara says, “tomorrow is another day.” Go Cats!

Tough day for Lauren Boyd. Need her to bounce back.

Both teams are what they are at this point. Softball just isn't at its usual level. Hopefully it's just a down year, and history would indicate that is the case. Baseball is a success if it makes the BTT (Top 12 now). Softball ... very borderline for NCAA, probably needs to finish strong just to make it.

Unforetunately, Cats’ Softball gets beat today 3-0 to give Nebraska the series sweep. This snaps the Cats streak of winning consecutive B1G series at a little over 20. Jordy Bahl led the Huskers to the victory, giving up only 2 hits.

Olshin hit the nail on the head, we pretty well know what we’ve got this year. A generally competitive team, but without the top pitching talent of prior years with Danielle Williams and Ashley Miller and an inconsistent lineup. I agree making the NCAA tournament is going to be difficult.

We face Rutgers and Wisconsin in our next two series, before closing out the season against highly ranked UCLA. In my view, we need to sweep Rutgers (likely) and Wisconsin (possible), be competitive with UCLA (unlikely) and get into the semi-finals (doubtful) in the B!G tournament to have a reasonable shot at making the NCAA tourney. A tall order.

Somehow, we’ve got to land a dominant pitcher for next year if we’re going to have a chance to make any real noise like we have in the past. Doubt we have the NIL money to do so. But I can always hope. Go Cats!
