Trae Young to NBA

Sooners lose a third player from this years team, Kam McGusty will transfer. Previously Jordan Shepherd announced he too will transfer. That's 50 points (counting Lattin who was a Senior) from Norman gone. Liking this game better and better at the Welsh.

I think this guy is going to struggle to adjust to the NBA. I watched him play about 5-6 games in the second half of this season and I saw a lot of things he needs to work on. He can really handle and shoot the ball but physically he really wore down during the college season. I am not sure how he will be able to handle the rigors of an NBA season and think defensively he will struggle to match up with most NBA guards.

Completely agree. He would have been well served to play another year at OU and build up his body. He's gonna get killed in the NBA.

Young is the classic example of what can go wrong when you get a single one-and-done, unlike the multiple additions Duke and Kentucky get each year. You get excitement, but the team becomes all about him — and the team goes as he goes. He slumps and you barely make NCAA (and probably shouldn't have. Penn State would beat them like a drum if they played now.) Then he's off to the pros after a year and the character of the team changes completely for next year.

We should see if this team can beat a Rider by more than a point before we start talking about real programs.

He had to carry too much of the burden at OU, he won't have to do that in the NBA. He has the same exact body as Steph Curry when he was drafted. I think Steph has added 10 lbs, expect Trae to do the same. If he is half the player Curry is, he'll do fine in the NBA.

Curry played multiple years of college ball. Secondly he does not have exactly the same body as Curry. Maybe he has the same body Curry had as a freshman in college but that only reinforces my point that Young is not ready for the NBA. He should have stayed in school. The NBA is not a league which has the patience and luxury to develop players, particularly 6ft guards that can’t guard anybody.

I'm inclined to agree, but then that's what they said about Steph Curry too.

The NBA has plenty of patience developing players that are lottery picks, which Young is projected to be.

He should jump to the pros and get his guaranteed millions while he can. Recent decisions by star underclassmen to stay in school haven’t turned out great (see Grayson Allen).

Going pro may be the smart financial decision, I don’t believe it is the best move for his development as a basketball player.

I don’t know, in my opinion the amount of development possible in the college level as opposed to the pros is overrated. While it’s difficult to prove either case, at least in the pros he will be devoting full time to basketball (insert joke here).

I agree. He won't have to pretend to play school in the NBA, but it comes down to playing time.
