Vic Law Tabbed Big Ten Freshman of the Week

Forward helped lead the Wildcats to wins over Minnesota and Penn State

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern forward Vic Law (South Holland, Ill./St. Rita) has been named the Big Ten Men's Basketball Freshman of the Week the conference office announced Monday.

It is the first such honor for Law. He is the second Wildcat to earn the recognition this season as he joins Bryant McIntosh who picked up the honor on Dec. 15.

Law averaged 13.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game in leading Northwestern to victories over Minnesota and Penn State. He shot 58.8 percent (10-17) from the field and 60 percent (6-10) from 3-point range.

The two wins gave the Wildcats their first three-game winning streak in Big Ten play in three years.

In Wednesday's win at Minnesota, Law connected on three straight 3-point field goals as he keyed a 16-0 second-half run that turned a six-point deficit into a 10-point lead that Northwestern would not relinquish.

He followed up the performance by recording his first career double-double, posting career highs of 17 points and 11 rebounds in Saturday's 60-39 win over Penn State. Law connected on 7 of 12 field goal attempts, including knocking down three for the second straight game.

Defensively, Law played a huge role in limiting Big Ten leading scorer D.J. Newbill (21.1 ppg) to only one field goal and 3 points in the contest as Northwestern held Penn State to 39 points, the fewest by an NU opponent in a Big Ten game in 10 years.

This season, Law ranks fourth on the team with an average of 6.7 points per game and second with 4.9 rebounds per contest.

Northwestern (13-14, 4-10 B1G) carries its three-game winning streak into a home game against Indiana on Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. Tickets are available at NUsports.com or by calling 888-GO-PURPLE.
