Northwestern Basketball Nominated for Best Play at 2017 ESPYS

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's buzzer-beater to knock off Michigan March 1 at Welsh-Ryan Arena has been named one of 16 nominees for Best Play for the 25th annual ESPYS.

With the score tied 65 apiece and with 1.7 seconds remaining in the second half, Nathan Taphorn connected with Dererk Pardon on an 88-foot inbounds pass which Pardon finished with a layup before the clock hit all zeros, giving the Wildcats the dramatic victory and all but cementing the team's first NCAA tournament berth in school history.

The play is seeded No. 4 in the bracket-style tournament to determine Best Play. Opening-round voting is currently underway and runs until June 28 at which time the eight first-round winners will advance to the second round. Round three voting will begin July 5.

The 2017 ESPYS will be televised on ABC July 12 beginning at 7 p.m. Central.

Let's be real - Ben zobrist double in game 7 was the play of the year.

Love Zobrist but he's getting paid $56 million by the Cubs to swing that bat. He was supposed to hit that double.

Two college kids having to connect on an arguably much more difficult play against vaunted Michigan.....it's really no contest.
