We can reassess those 'Vic Law will never be a star' comments, right?

Vic has so much potential.

Don't look now, but he's now up to 34% on the season on threes, having made 9 of his last 13 and 14 of his last 24 (if I can count correctly). He's now averaging a clean 7 and 5, and he's got the length and leaping ability to be a game-changer on defense.

He's got filling out to do, but I sure hope that JVZ and Falzon allow him to play the bulk of his minutes at the 3, because I don't know how much more weight his frame will be able to handle.

It's reassuring to read him explain that he watched the video, noticed that he wasn't rising up straight, and simply corrected the fundamental error. That's great athleticism and maturity.

If Vic is going to see the bulk of his time as a 3, he will need to work on his ball handling. That seems to be his biggest weakness. But he's got great athleticism, and I can certainly see him improving that part of his game. If he does get better on the bounce, he'll be able to get to the line more. As an 80 percent shooter, that should only mean good things.

I also like the fact that he looks roughly 48 years old, at least in facial features.

I don't think I ever said anything but I have to admit I was wishing he would be more productive and when I would look at Dugan's stats, I wondered why Collins was keeping him in so much. Now we know.

One hot game could have been a fluke but these last few games explain what CC was looking for. He just seems to be playing with both fight and confidence right now. I hope he is having fun and that it inspires him to keep working hard.

Nobody ever heard that from me. I have maintained all along that the kid is gonna be a star. People said he's more of a role player and I just laugh at their lack of knowledge. This kid is a fantastic player, has proved it time and again, and now that he's free of the Ballhog Brothers, he's gonna show it - just like he did when he was free of them in AAU. All he needed was a little time to learn how to fit in. I actually think that makes him a better player. He's self-aware and DIDN'T try to shove his game onto the team too soon. He needs to pass and move move more - but passing and moving requires knowing where you're supposed to move TO. That took him a while to figure out. Hint: in the future, the answer to that question for Vic as to where he's supposed to move to will be: anywhere he damn well pleases!! He's that good.

The line about "ballhog brothers" is pretty funny. And like the Big Ten, the CCL has pretty good coaching and eventually, if that's all you do, it's going to be shut down.

Vic has a sweet shot.

He shoots a high percentage from the line which indicates his mechanics and confidence are there.

From distance, he really has some strength and touch. Shoots a beautiful ball. High release, high arc, good rotation.

Three years ago at the start of his first full year, Demps missed a lot of shots and this board said he couldn't shoot. Demps can shoot from three.

Last year Tap missed a lot and people said he couldn't shoot in the Big Ten.

We read the same thing on this board for the first three months of this season.

Vic may be the best three point shooter on the team. He won't sustain the % he's had the last three or four games. But he's more of a 40%=45% three point shooter than a 20% three point shooter based on his form.

And when the Big Ten defenders realize this they'll start running at him on every shot, and he'll put the ball on the floor and will be gone....

I was also impressed last night with the touch on his passes down to Olah in the post. I think Vic is a very well rounded player and a stat sheet stuffer.

Not long ago, I said I doubt Law becomes a "super"star. Man, he keeps this up, he'll prove me wrong and then some!!!

He is 18/32 from the field (56%) over his last 5 games. Also 6 steals and 30 rebounds.

He was 14/44 in 10 conference games before that streak, with only 2 steals and 4.2 rpg.

So perhaps the zone defense has accentuated his defensive skills, but he seems to be a much different player now.

More like if you expend energy of the D end, the legs are not there on O. And zone tends to take less energy.

Count me among the Law write-offs

I agree with everyone who said he had a pretty shot. But it wasn't happening. My general thought was, "OK, let's see how he comes back next year."

I'm so glad to be wrong on this one. But in my own defense, can anybody name a player AT ANY SCHOOL who has turned their game around in a matter of games like the Lawman has.

He's playing like a top-100 recruit.

Re: Count me among the Law write-offs

Isaac Copeland from Georgetown has come on really strong in the past few weeks. He wasn't getting much playing time and now he's playing well enough to move up on Chad Ford's draft board.

I am guessing you will find that once you get past the top 20-25 recruits, more than half of the top-100 recruits don't play like top-100 recruits their freshmen year. Kameron Chatman at Michigan was a top 50 recruit and he's putting up numbers similar to Law's pre-Minnesota numbers. Dion Wiley at Maryland was more highly rated than Law and he's not playing at all. Leron Black at Illinois is having an up and down freshmen year as well.

Re: Count me among the Law write-offs

Freshmen are, well, Freshmen. Steve Bardo said it a couple times. When Law gets stronger... The kid is just out of HS and competing against 22 year old men. While the top 5-10 out of HS come ready to play, it is not true of most. And most of them are one and done. Law we will get to see for a few years. It takes some time. And his game will get greater depth as he matures. His breakout is fun to see but I did not really figure him for it till next year with the off season in the weight room. And while it is easier to evaluate a guy on offensive stats, much of Law's value so far has been on the defensive end. I don't know about super star but he is definitely a star in the making.
