We have not had a mobile QB who can pass this well since Persa!

Clayton converted several nice passes while on the run! We need his mobility as it stops teams from Blitzing us! We just need to have Clayton slide when getting hit! We need to have our QB be throwing from outside the pocket at least 30% of the time or opposing ends will crash the box and get sacks like last year! Hackenburg has slow foot speed and is immobile, sort of like an injured Trevor last year!

Cant say I disagree with this premise

While I feel he will be what you say, he has some development to do.

He's not as elusive as Persa, but he seems to be faster. Perhaps that's a tradeoff. Persa was adept at throwing passes into a crowded area. I don't know that Clayton could be trusted to do that yet.

Persa was better...BUT...Clayton has another 46 games in his college career to improve. I agree with Seattle Persa was more elusive and much quicker than Thorson. Persa when healthy was a 4.5 guy and it showed on the field. Thorson is a high 4.6 guy...BUT...I betcha' Thorson's top end speed is greater than Persa's because of stride mechanics. Arm strength and accuracy go to Persa as well, but we did not see Persa as a red shirt Frosh, only a Soph. I truly believe if Persa had never gotten hurt that he would have had a legit chance at the Heisman his senior year. What happened to Dan was very sad.

What we forget about Persa (because he was an absolute superstar at QB) is how each week there was more than one thread debating and moaning his height. So speed to Persa vision to Thorson, quality of QB? gotta give Thorson at least a whole season to grow before it will be a fair comparison.

Deering +1 right on the money! Actually after thorsons junior year then we can truly compare them

Let's give him the time to develop. He can be one of the best but he is not there yet.

I'd say that Persa was even more elusive than Colter; while Colter was faster, Persa was more slippery (one of the plays that still amazes me is when a defender is bearing down on Persa for a sure sack and goes for the tackle and Persa ducks - sending the defender flying over him and then proceeding to roll out...).

The coaches have kept Thorson btwn the tackles for the most part; still way early for the kid, but let's just hope development in all aspects of the passing game come sooner than later.

When healthy, Siemian was a pretty good passer on the run (didn't have top-line speed, but his mobility as underrated) - was the leading rusher against MSU the year MSU won the Rose Bowl.
