It’s sad but true. Fitz has this program going in the wrong direction.

How many people are dead in yonder cemetery? Edit, cemetery built in 2017What crucial situations did Collins fail in?
As I said last year, NU should hire a coach coach. And for god's sake, fire JON. NOW!I know I will get all kinds of grief for this, as I get grief all the time from the rulers of this site anyway, but I just don't think we will get where any of us want to be with Fitz going forward. He's just too antiquated, and I'm not sure knows how to deal with the current state of college football. We need a coach who understands the current state of college football. Or, which would be the best, is we keep Fitz and he hires someone who can advise him as to the current state of the world of college football and orchestrate is Game Plan accordingly. And for all of you who think I'm a troll I graduated from Northwestern and have been a fan for 50 years.
If our players are less athletic than SIU, we may as well give up..I like Fitz. If he has ceded play-calling to two guys who suck at it, gotta fix those problems. Fitz is the face of the program, maybe even the university. If his coordinators are afraid to take risks, we all suffer. If Fitz is constantly undercutting the coordinators, thats a problem too.
But the front 7 on defense is not big enough or athletic enough.
The offense is so timid, it is difficult to believe we actually have a coordinator.
At this point the coaches have to get as much as they can out of the available talent. Are we doing that? Absolutely not.
You blitz on defense in college when your defense is not very good. Thats a given.
Am I rambling? Yes.
If true, what do the coaches bring to the table? Can’t identify and successfully recruit P5 talent, can’t coach them up to over perform. Oh, they graduate everybody that doesn’t transfer. If our players are less athletic than SIU, we may as well give up..
Let them do as almost all D1 teams can do! Grades and graduation rates be damned. I demand 40 new bodies next year and NIL payments of $50,000 per player. That ought to attract some great talent. Keep up with the Jones' and forget the new stadium, do whatever is necessary to win in this new college football world. Adapt to the damn market or get out.If true, what do the coaches bring to the table? Can’t identify and successfully recruit P5 talent, can’t coach them up to over perform. You are correct that Fitz is the face of the University, and that's why he will never be fired. But maybe the powers that be can convince him to take on a more ceremonial role. He can still be the "Head Football Coach" but the technical game planning, scheming, offensive/defensive philosophy, play calling can be delegated to a larger extent than it already is. Does anyone think that Bobby Bowden was dealing with the technical X's and O's the last 10 years or so when he was at FSU? The man coached into his 80s!!! Let Fitz be the great ambassador to the program that he is, but if he doesn't get outside help (i.e., not from just his buddies like JON). NU football will be stuck in reverse.I like Fitz. Fitz can you get you there but not take you to the next level and that is a regular contender. 6 wins a year is the floor for NU Football. 12/31 or New Year's Bowls every 3 years. Win the games you should (like Akron, SIU, ISU, etc.) and not get destroyed by B1G elites (OSU/PSU/UM) we'd be happy.I know I will get all kinds of grief for this, as I get grief all the time from the rulers of this site anyway, but I just don't think we will get where any of us want to be with Fitz going forward. I still laugh at all the defenders who claimed he would be hired by P5 or NFL teams if we released him. Guys are clueless.
He needs to get real coordinators that are hungry and somewhat innovative to draw better offensive skilled players into the program. Fitz might have tried being innovative with the JON hire, but not sure what he was thinking that a 3-4 offense would work against BIG teams, especially since the run is still king in the conference for the most part. I am not an alum, but I am a fan. Like I stated in another thread, the best CFB coaches usually hire the best and most innovative coordinators available as it shows with their coaching tree. Fitz's tree is rather non existent outside of maybe Hankwitz.I know I will get all kinds of grief for this, as I get grief all the time from the rulers of this site anyway, but I just don't think we will get where any of us want to be with Fitz going forward.
