While it would be earth-shattering for such a highly regarded talent to seriously entertain a scholarship offer from NU there are however some minimally encouraging signs.
He reportedly is planning to make a move from Cleveland. Doesn't want to play 2nd fiddle to LBJ anymore. Granted, the chances of this happening are very low, but perhaps, just perhaps, Kyrie will bring his otherworldly ball handling and offensive skills to Evanston! According to my super-sleuth analysis, Kyrie played only one year at Duke, so he technically has 3 years of eligibility on the remote chance that he were to enroll at NU, not to mention he's been with the Cavs and been away from the college game for 6 years, so that means he wouldn't even have to sit out a year. (Nevermind that as a pro, you no longer are eligible and he's already past the 5 years to play 4 rule - but don't discuss that because it is OUTSIDE THE SCOPE of this thread).
At least his time at Duke suggests he is wiling to consider an academically rigorous private school, plus unlikely Bagley, CCC HAD deep and direct contact with him as a Duke coach.
Nevermind that he's already a pro and not at all eligible and NU is probably a destination that has never crossed his mind, relative to Minnesota, New York or San Antonio. Anyway, no sensible person should bet his life savings on his joining NU for 2017, but the odds of that happening are perhaps non-negligible (well, actually they are negligible), and definitely as realistic as the recent speculation that Marvin Bagley III will be coming here.
All that said, neither I nor you can be certain about his thought process...I'd say if I was CCC I'd EXPLORE this possibility and see where it leads. He would for sure beat an empty roster spot for a year.
Let's hope the reason why NU is seemingly still holding on a 2017 scholarship is Kyrie (or someone else who would also be an extremely pleasant surprise if he were to join the Cats).
There's always a chance, albeit admittedly super slim, at least the same (or even more!) of Marvin Bagley III coming to NU.
