We seem to have stipulated facts that:

* Some version of hazing has taken place in the recent past. Car wash, naked slingshotting, other naked things - regardless of whether harmless fun or borderline/actually criminal...there is a preponderance of evidence that "stuff" happened.
* We agree that no credible evidence has been found that Fitz "definitely" knew anything firsthand.

So...I've been visiting this board 500 times a day since Friday and I've literally not come across one single post or comment about holding the players accountable who perpetrated these acts that irrefutably cost Fitz his job, including from Fitz himself, who insisted there would be zero tolerance. There are some who are almost definitely still on the team today.

Why/why not?

Because we don't know anything concrete? Because likely a lot of the team is implicated in it? Hopefully more information will come out in the days/weeks/months to come, but it may not, and we may just not ever know the full details. One would think the captains of the team will be asked about it at media days at a minimum.

I think that addressing discipline among the teams naturally comes next. I wouldn't expect expulsions. If that happened, we might not have a big enough roster to play this season. I do agree though, that anyone who is still in the program needs to be held accountable.

Probably because there is nothing that is reasonably prosecutable

I’ve been thinking about why Schill skipped meeting the team — that’s such a basic step of leadership, facing the subordinates after firing their leader. Maybe the reason is he wanted the distance because additional punishment is coming, something even more drastic. (Of course this is all assuming he has a plan or competence, which we should not do.)

Maybe that's a price we need to pay. If it was sufficient for Fitz, who may or may not have been involved but "should have known," to lose his job over this, then surely the adult upperclassmen who actually perpetrated this need to be held accountable too.

Because Schill is not a leader.

I'm not necessarily looking to prosecute anyone.

Car wash. Okay...who were the big uglies soaped up blocking the showers? Who ran the hose? If this was enough to get a sitting coach fired, it's enough to sanction the players who went rogue against the coach's stated program values. I'm just literally not understanding how this part of the conversation has been omitted thus far.

‘Stated’ program values.

That was my reaction when the daily article came out. All the focus was on Fitz but how do we not know who committed these acts? How are they allowed remain on the team? Remain enrolled in the university?

The investigation was, for what it’s worth, pretty shallow. But perhaps the evidence was sufficient that it didn’t need to continue further, and of course there was the dead-period suspension to consider.

Schill reported that 11 current or former players confirmed that hazing happened. This was out of a total of ‘more than 50’ interviews.

I imagine there were individuals that were ringleaders, and also individuals who never were hazed, and never hazed anyone. I wouldn’t be surprised if those individuals closed ranks to keep it in the family.

The purpose of the investigation was to determine the validity of the accusations, and not to identify perpetrators. It’s probably wrong to take this approach, but perhaps the investigators were taking individual participation as a function of the overall culture, not as a case of individuals doing wrong.

I don’t know.

Maybe we’ll get some names, but I assume it’ll be a looooong list.

If the investigation found the allegations of sexual assault credible, how can that be the end
of it? The university is going to let the perpetrators of these acts remain on the team?

I wish all the people with their pitchforks pit for Fitz would direct them at the people who committed these acts.

From the NW student code of conduct....

Individuals, as well as groups of students and student organizations,
may face disciplinary sanctions (up to and including removal from the
University) for acts of hazing. Hazing activities may also violate the
Illinois Hazing Act, 720 ILCS §5/12C50, which carries criminal penalties
of up to three years’ imprisonment and a $25,000 fine.
