Just talked to new commit Aidan Atkinson. Here are some notes:
He’s a talker. I asked him a general question about why he chose NU and he talked for five minutes. Covered everything about the school and program.
NU has been recruiting him for over a year. McCall went out to see him throw last spring and again this fall. He got the offer in September.
He visited for the Michigan game and “fell in love with the school.” He said he knew then that he would be a Wildcat. As soon as his season was over (they lost in the playoffs on Friday night), he pulled the trigger.
He describes himself as a pro-style guy, but he’s willing to run if that’s what it takes. He’s too busy throwing the ball to run in Fairview’s offense. He had a couple games this year where he threw it more than 50 times. He had 3,952 yards and 55 (!) TDs, against 7 INTs, in 10 games. He credits his WRs for his crazy numbers.
He broke his thumb in Week 10, so he missed both playoff games (they won one and then lost). He hit a DL’s raised hand on a follow-through and fractured the bone. He didn’t have any ligament damage and should be 100% in 2-2.5 months. He’s in a splint now.
He has a 4.15 GPA and wants to Major in business (so he’ll probably be a human development and social policy major at NU, like a lot of other players).
He sounds like a QB. I wouldn’t call him cocky, but he’s confident and comfortable talking. He uses “right?” a lot while talking — as in, “They play in the Big Ten and they’re a winning program, right? They’ve been to bowls right if the last 10 years and just won the Big Ten West last night, right?”
