I completely forgot about this option until tonight. The closest major airport other than SLC to SLC is Vegas. When we win Thursday, book a flight to Vegas for Friday and back out on Monday or Tuesday. This may not be any cheaper if you make detours, but there are lot of airplane seats to LAS and obviously there are tons of hotels there. I looked at 1-way tickets out of LAS on Sunday back to NY and they are $800 less for me than flying out of SLC.
There are a lot of cheaper hotels in the outskirts of SLC for Saturday night after the game. Then you can drive back to LAS on Sunday morning. Let's pack the place on Saturday!
