The main problems with our WRs this year have been getting separation and consistently catching the ball. PYA isn't really going to help in either of those areas, particularly the latter.
Basically same problem the past 2-3 years; if PYA couldn't break into the rotation esp. after all the injuries at the position last year, wasn't going to do so this yr.
Also, last season, there was the issue of receivers running routes sloppily or even running incorrect routes (I'm assuming there is some improvement in that respect due to the position group paying attention to that in spring ball and camp, but then again, one never knows).
Even with all the issues last season, the WRs were the most productive during the stretch of the 4th Q of the UM game, ND and PU - and that has to do w/ McCall finally moving the pocket and allowing Siemian to use his legs to evade the pass rush and buying more time for receivers to get open.
What's the point of having a
dual-threat QB if you're just going to have him be stationary in the pocket? (That's fine if the 'Cats are winning the battle up front.)
I think the schemes have been poor as well although you have disagreed about that. Flooding zones with 3 wr isnt working nor does it spread the field. If it worked, then fine.
PSU fans have the exact same complaints about their OC.
Maybe the biggest problem is from michigan forward, teams are simply going to load up at los to stop jackson.
That's what opponents have been doing for the past 2 seasons.
Again, it's no coincidence that both JJ and Green got their
longest runs when McCall finally started to move Siemian around and hence, had to take more into account the passing game w/ a mobile QB, which opened up space for the run game.
