Which of our board luminaries are going to the Verizon Center?

I'm more of a twenty watt bulb than a luminary, but count me in.

I'm one of those solar backyard lights that never works...

By the way, what is the Verizon Center? I have no idea and am simply not willing to look it up because then all my ads will be for for Verizon stuff until I look up something else like 4x4 tires or whatever.

Not sure if sarcasm but it is where the Wizards play.

I can go depending on the seeding. Some nincompoop scheduled mandatory meeting Thursday 430

I'm going down to DC for the Thursday game but won't be able to make it for the run to the B1G Championship. Need to save some family goodwill for the following week.

Go Cats!

I just got my tickets. I plan on having dinner in Chinatown, catching the second half of the first game and then watching the Cats

There is an Irish pub -Fado- that could be a gathering spot for board members, if anyone is interested in that alternative for Thursday's game

For out of towners, there are numerous restaurants and pubs near the Verizon Center

Probably not (for the usual reasons), though the 9pm starts do make it within the realm of possibility, more likely on Friday (if they win first round). Are tickets easy to obtain? Would be cool if I could experience my first bowl game and first BTT game in a 3-month span,,,

Tickets are easy to get. If you have never been to a BB conference tourney, individual sessions are easy to get because fans from teams that are not involved will dump their tickets. My seats are midcourt. Easiest game to get tickets for is the championship game. Hardest is the semi-finals

I will post pre-game plans ,so anyone attending may be able to have a mini-NU tailgate ala FloridaAlum

I'll add a couple of other places.

Jackpot is a cool basement bar across the street. RFD is usually packed, but it's a great beer spot. Zatanya (around the corner) is an excellent restaurant.

There's a also a bunch of great places on H St. corridor these days and it's only a short cab/uber from verizon. Same goes for the Shaw neighborhood. Plenty of options in DC.

Columbus, I plan on doing plenty of walking. Is this H Street corridor and/or Shaw neighborhood within long walking distance of the Verizon Center? And if so, are there any particular places you'd recommend in these areas?

It is amazing about the transformation of some neighborhoods in DC. The fact that you mention Shaw is almost unbelievable considering that it was a shooting gallery in the 70's

The "Chop House" next to The Verizon Center should be a must for Iowa fans. It has a huge "Pork Chop" that when coupled with onion soup is a memorable meal

Tony Cheng's in Chinatown is a huge restaurant with traditional Chinese dishes on one floor and a Mongolian grill on another. You can eat till the cows come home at the grill -using another Iowa reference

If you get to DC, try Yuengling on tap. It is America's oldest beer and has been resurgent on the East Coast. If you go to Fado, try Smithwick's on tap. The bottled version of Smithwick's does not do justice to the original draught style

The Greene Turtle is on the first floor of the Verizon Center-it is a typical bar with multiple brews but will be wall to wall with people. I only mention it because , a friend started the chain, that you now see in malls and airports

Thanks for the info, Doc. I welcome all suggestions since I've never really had the chance to wander the downtown area there.

What type of food/drink are you looking for?

Parts of H St. might be a little much for a walk. The far end of H that has Granville Moore's (mussels/fries/Belgian beer) and Ocopa (Pisco/peruvian) is about 2 miles. There are good places in between though.

Shaw is the becoming the "new American" hub of the city and where you can find the best cocktails in town. Places like Mockingbird Hill (one of three Derek Brown bars that are all next to each other) are about 1.25 miles north of Verizon. Once again there are plenty of options in between.

The changes to Shaw have been pretty swift too. Really just in the past four five years with the restaurant bar scene taking off in 2014.

Given the nature of your responses, Columbus, I fear I'm disappointing you when I tell you that I don't drink - I'm all about the food, and there's almost nothing I don't like (or wouldn't try). Packing light for the trip, so "casual" will pretty much be the order of the day. Anything within two miles or so of the Verizon Center would be worth a look, I'd say. You've already given me more places than I'll have a chance to visit, and I appreciate the info.

Not at all!

Give this place a look (Shaw location). It's amazing. One of my favorite DC spots and only a mile north of Verizon. They do homemade moon pies too! There's also great coffee place nearby (compass coffee).

Happy to offer up more suggestions.

LOL! I bought 6 solar yard lights from Dollar General for $1 a piece. Buying anything electronic from Dollar General store is downright comical, and for a buck apiece, what did I have to lose? Two went dead in one day, two more died after 3 days, the last two didn't last more than a week. After they died, I mowed one with the lawnmower and stepped on two others.

The problem here is that they work great in the summer when there is no darkness to need them and in the winter there is not enough daylight to charge them.

Columbus;
Terrific call on Sundevich; would you believe I'm actually posting from there as we speak? What floored me, though, was when I told the guy at the counter that ColumbusCatFan sent me . . . he threw in a bag of chips on the house. Who knew you had such sway out here?

Lol : )

I'm glad you enjoyed it! I used get there once a week when I had a steady engagement in the city, but it's tough with my current work schedule and location...I'll probably go there for dinner on Friday if the 'Cats advance.

Which sandwich did you go with? The Beirut, Lima, and Oslo are my "go tos".

The chalkboard said the Oslo was unavailable. Went with the Istanbul, though damn near any of them would've been good. Good call, Sir!
