Who cursed the team, Lou or Feli?

When Lou said that we punched our ticket to the big dance, I got a chill up my spine because I have heard overly confident comments, after a string of victories, since when I was a student. Nothing against Lou, but it seems as if everytime we think something good is happening, a disaster happens.

On the other hand, Feli has spoken truth, even as he endures the hate from those in wonderland.

If we lose today, we are done and should plan for the NIT or try for a miracle season ending.

Our team has zero depth and the course of the season has gassed us.

Lets support the cats in their uphill battles in hopes that we can still squeeze in the big dance this year.

The answer to this thread is neither cursed them. If they don't make the tournament, it won't be because of a curse. It will be because of bad basketball. I think we will make it though.

Our season is ending up a dud just like the ends of both halves. We cant finish a half or a season due to a thorough lack of depth. Its not anyone's fault, we just dont have the talent on the bench.

Stupor, Turk, and Shakes would have agreed but those in wonderland cant handle the reality.

That clinches it. You are Turk.

First of all, I don't care if anyone thinks I cursed them. And if they do think that anything I write has any effect whatsoever in what happens out on the floor, I feel sorry for them. I think an awful lot of myself and even I don't think that.

All that said, I think NU is more than likely in already. Bilas and Palm think so. It's not because NU's resume is so strong; it's because no other bubble teams have better ones. Heck, Pitt and Clemson are considered on the bubble and they're each 4-12 in the ACC! Take a look at the teams NU is vying with. One more win would make it a lock, but they'll probably hear their name on Selection Sunday regardless. It will just suck if they lose out and go in having lost five in a row and seven of nine.

I'd bet that the Cats beat Michigan and win at least in the BTT and go "Dancing".

This post is gross.

Doesn't matter. He is correct.
Yes. Last week I read a very insightful post by Feli. He thoroughly refuted LouV and explained that the path to the dance would be very hard this year. I also questioned LouVs post. Others outside the NU community proclaimed the certainty of us dancing but those of us who know our program should know better. NU fans already knew that Bryant's free throw would take a miraculous bounce to win the game.

Unfortunately, as happened with puffcat years ago, feli was castrated on this board with non academic comments that bullied him but couldnt refute his message.

There will be wonderful times ahead, so nobody should be upset if we miss out on the dance again this year.

Turk, Feli's post was refuted because it was beyond ridiculous. He said we had to win two more regular season games (besides Rutgers) to make the Dance, when not a single bracketoligist agrees with him. The truth is, all the experts believe that we have an easy path to the Dance this year. I personally think it is a bit harder (I think we still need one win and a BTT win for it to be a lock), but no one with any sense agrees with Feli's position, just like no one agreed with his numerology nonsense about Fitz. I would play close attention to Lou's post if I were you and stop trolling the mods here.

I think we'lll beat Michigan and it won't matter. But has any team ever lost 7 of its last 9 conference games and made the tourney w/o winning the conference tourney? I would guess no.

It would be nice if Mr. Law contributed something on offense, not gonna be easy beating Michgian w/o him.

I am guessing that there has been one that has lost 7 of their 9 last regular season games and still made it without winning their conference tourney Just a few years ago Iowa lost 5 of their last 6 regular season games (and 7 of their last 10) lost to us in the first round of the BTT, and still made it. That is fairly close to the streak you describe, and it was the first team that came to mind off of the top of my head.

Iowa was 4-5 over their last 9 regular season conference games last year, so not quite 2-7, but a pretty similar meltdown as they did lose 4 of 5 (and 5 of 6). I did look that one up before I posted. They also finished 12-6 in the Big Ten.

The Iowa team I referenced finished 9-9 in the BIG (9-10 if you count the first round BTT loss) and still made it.

There is no such thing as curses and when NU gets in, Lou will be the prognosticator who saw the tipping point first.

After that, Scotty will continue to recover and Law will find his stroke for an exciting post season.

Besides we have a good shot at beating Michigan at home and the house will come down. It is going to be great!

We are good enough that we can beat any other BT team. I would say that Michigan will only be a slight favorite at best.
You raise a good point about Law. Is it all Law's fault? Setting picks for him would be nice.

We have to find offense, and it doesnt help when Collins takes out players with a hot hand. He did it twice yesterday. Lindsey was pulled in the first half after he seemed to be getting in a great flow.
And we have to play Brown more. Mac was exhausted and misses free throws late in the game.

I don't recall Brown even playing in the 2nd half. In fact, Collins pretty much played the starters the whole 2nd half, except Skelly for a few minutes, Benson for maybe a minute, and Taphorn at the end.

Thinking ahead a few years. I think Brown will attack at the end of games when they pressure us, and get to the FT line. He is much better at that than BMac. BMac rarely draws contact, instead prefes the floater (which he is pretty good at).

Collins has some tough decisions. He has little depth. Taphorn has become useless lately, Skelly gets confused and is up or down depending on his emotions, and Brown is inexperienced.
But he has to at least trust Brown. Mac is our bread and butter but is gassed along with Law towards the end of halves. Collins is clueless about this.

He even could have bought his team several needed rest with timeouts but he ate 3 second half timeouts. He could have even used them during the last minute to call his best plays. Instead, he seemed oblivious that lindsay, mac, and law were running on empty with complete disarray. Lindsey never commits that foul if he wasnt fatigued.

Mac is in the games because without him NU is not competitive. Law is tired because he is needed to guard the other teams top scorer and where is Lumpkin? Lindsey gets pulled because he's still recovering from Mono. tap is a liability on defense and Brown is not ready. Also, Collins and NU are playing shorthanded thanks two of their top recruit being down with injuries and one schlorship being held hostage. Beat Michigan and/or Purdue and they go dancing. Win a couple of games in the BTT and they get 6 or 7 seed. Relax.

This part I agree with. It's sort of a compliment that we never run screens to get him open. Says we trust his ability. But sheesh, we need him to get more good looks other than 3's from the elbow extended. He's got plenty of mid-range game, too. It seems like we're settling in on him just being a 3 point shooter or a back cut ally-ooper. He's a lot more than that offensively.

Yeah, our coach is clueless about an aspect of the game, but Turk is all knowing.

He could be an offensive machine avg 15+ a game if his number was called. Mac gets more wide open shots as we set multiple picks for him. Not saying that is wrong but we do need to get Law more involved offensively if we are going to get better.

I guess I should respond, this one time, about my identity. I am neither Turk, Shakes, or Stupor. I have read the board for quite some time and knew of those posters. If you choose to believe Im Turk then I can live with that if you engage the discussions and dont bully.

I agree with alot of what you say and you bring very good insight but you tend to bully or name call posters who point out things that you are uncomfortable with.

I agreed with felis conclusion that the cats arent necessarily in. And I disagreed with Lou that the cats already punched their ticket.

The media is alot harder on us than feli. Our dream is now called a nightmare at this point on the bigten network.

If you allow space for others to question things, you may be able to understand different perspectives other than labels.

You can respectfully disagree with people without taunting them, which you clearly did not do in this post. The fact that you trolled Lou makes it even worse, imo. If you troll others, don't be surprised when they troll back.

And if you are not Turk, would you mind telling us what your former screenname was? Hiding behind a new screenname does not help your reputation any, especially some of the more disreputable posters on this board have a history of changing screennames.

If this is true, you would know that Feli's sole purpose on this board is to be obnoxious and rain on the parade. After a while, such behavior become intolerable.

Feli has not started a single positive thread during his/her time on this board. Leaning contrarian is fine, but continuously starting arguments for arguments sake is annoying, especially when those initial statements are refuted (several times over by knowledgeable posters).

Here's an example: When Collins landed Rap there was much celebration on this board. Feli immediately chimed in that the commitment was not a big deal and that signing Barrett Benson would be a true testament to CC's recruiting prowess. A few months later NU signs Benson and lo and behold, no Feli. This is not the only time that poster has acted in such a manner. It's reminiscent of what posters outside WR due from time to time (Hans81, etc). This behavior is known as "trolling".

I agreed with felis conclusion that the cats arent necessarily in. And I disagreed with Lou V that the cats already punched their ticket.

I take issue with the way you phrased this.

First off, it's incredibly misleading. Based on the responses you see on the different ongoing threads, it seems to me that many/most posters believe NU has not locked up the tournament bid, yet. That being said, many/most of these same posters disagree with the premise NU would need to potentially go 12-6 to lock up an at large bid (see Feli's original thread). The logic behind that premise is outdated, incorrect, and has been refuted many times over.

Additionally, why do you need to constantly call out Lou V (once again) for a post made in the immediate aftermath of the biggest win in program history? Taking into account the moment, the post wasn't big deal and was certainly not antagonistic (like a 10+ paragraph rant from Felis). I get the sense Lou felt, like many around here, that the win in Madison was probably the tipping point for the school's first NCAA bid. Moreover, there was no unnecessary CAPITALIZATION either to annoy the board either. Just joy. What's wrong with that?

The media is alot harder on us than feli. Our dream is now called a nightmare at this point on the bigten network.

One comment from the Big Ten network does not represent the entire media. Many outlets have opined that the 'Cats have/are on the cusp of punching their NCAA ticket.

Constantly call out Lou?
He is one of the more insightful NU fans. I dont remember disagreeing with his opinions as I did when he said we punched the ticket. I only disagreed because as a NU basketball fan, we all know better even though outsiders agreed with Lou.

Now, if we lose out, we will most likely be tied with Iowa or behind them.

When something good happens, it always has a very bad shadow following it. As a diehard Cubs fan, at least I have the hope to know that if we have a little more confidence, we may overcome.

Constantly call out Lou?

(Nearly) every post single you make includes this following tag line, "even though Lou V said we already punched our ticket to the dance". I've already addressed why it is unnecessary to continue to repeat this ad nauseam.

Perhaps, you are using this line in order to make absurd remarks from Feli seem viable? Otherwise, it can interpreted from your past remarks that this recent downturn is related a single post from Lou V (or that you are simply trying to antagonize him - which would be contrary to your response above). Either way, such posting behavior is not flattering.

Would you mind addressing some of the other issues I raised?

Im not sure I understand your issues with feli so Im not the person to address them. My comment about feli was focused on his one comment which concluded that we are not in. His analysis of the games was also accurate insomuch that he explained why we would have a hard time winning any games other than rutgers. You guys ripped on him but I think he was just reporting his honest assessment that we are a struggling team. We are whether you or others disagree with that.
We need a reset button and need energy.

If the 'Cats lose out, then Lou is to blame for saying that we are already in.

If the 'Cats manage to win one more, finish with a winning Big Ten record, and are still left out, then Feli is to blame. We don't even get to test his theory unless the 'Cats win one of these next two games.

Hey guys, Wickerpark is Feli.

I like the theory, but thinking the mods here would not let a person set up two different accounts under the same IP address; since I suspect (but don't know for certain) that such action would violate the site's TOS (I know it does for the site on which I moderate).

Let us dispense with the fiction that Mr. Wickerpark is the rabble rousing former poster known as Turk. I'm not taking sides in this dispute. I'm just considering Mr. W's grammar, spelling, punctuation (other than some missing apostrophes) and syntax, and that's evidence enough that this stuff was not written by the gentleman from Turkmenistan. And W. doesn't use exclamation points, so we can rule out Wrassler, too. As for his former identity, what we need is a reprise of the 1950s game show "What's My Line?" and see if the panelists can figure out who this person was.
