You think he'll be around to make the hire?I honestly have no confidence in the Illinois AD to make an intelligent choice. The dude is in way over his head and has an inferiority complex coming from Cincy. He's not Big Ten material and showed it with the Beckman hire.
You think he'll be around to make the hire?
Bo Pelini would be a great hire. Willingham on the other hand would not. He last coached in any position in 2008 when he went 0-12 at Washington. Hell, Charlie Weis would be a better hire. But if you're talking about black head coaches (and former Kansas failures) how about Turner Gill. He's coaching at the FCS level at Liberty. No up-and-comer is taking that call. Their best bet is an otherwise established guy who got fired from a Big 5 job, with no attached scandal. Tyrone Willingham would be my pick. Bonus points for race since a lot of their trustees/boosters have made that a factor. Bo Pelini wouldn't be a bad choice either.
Good points WCCF / Corbi - didn't think about Carey, he would also be a great choice.Thomas will be next to go. The new AD will make that hire. I think Carey would be a better hire than Fleck but both would be a big step up from what Illinois has had in a long time.
I realize reading comprehension is lacking down in central Illinois but the question was, WHO MIGHT BE THE NEXT ILLINOIS COACH. I help you out, no high profile coach would consider moving to Champaign-Urbana. Might want to try for a high school coach from, Decatur or Peoria. My vote is Lane(Lame) Kiffin. He would be great for N. U.
That was a pretty silly ass post. Do you realize to whom you respond? I think he reads and comprehend pretty well . He also played football pretty well. By the way, he lives in Florida.I realize reading comprehension is lacking down in central Illinois but the question was, WHO MIGHT BE THE NEXT ILLINOIS COACH. If Cubit (sp) does a good job as an interim coach he will be offered the job. PJ Fleck can recruit but he can't coach. If Cubit does not get the job they will be looking for a big name. Just my thoughts.
No. should I? Sorry if I offended such a highly respected Florida resident but why would he post that Lane Kiffin would be great for NU? Must have missed the sarcasm alertThat was a pretty silly ass post. Do you realize to whom you respond? I think he reads and comprehend pretty well . He also played football pretty well. It was obviously a joke to suggest a Illinois would hire a coach to benefit NU. Personally, I don't think Kiffin would be a terrible hire. I also think OC at Alabama is a better job and he's going to wait around for the right job rather than going to Champagne BananasNo. should I? Yes you should. His comment went right over your head. He was making a joke that Illinois should hire a total jerkNo. should I? Sorry if I offended such a highly respected Florida resident but why would he post that Lane Kiffin would be great for NU? Must have missed the sarcasm alert
Chris's brother Greg Schiano might be a more appropriate higher. Any chance we can throw Doug Marrone or Randy Shannon into the mix?Mike Singletary or Chris Schiano.
Mike Singletary would put them on Chicago's radar. Not a bad idea if they want to truly become "Illinois' Team."Mike Singletary or Chris Schiano.
Oops, I dunno how I made that typo. Obviously I meant Greg Schiano.
Don't knock these two. Singletary failed in the pros but a ton of coaches have turned out to be better suited for college than the pros. Nick Saban, Lou Holtz, Steve Spurrier Butch Davis, etc. He is an ordained minister and worked as a professional motivational speaker before becoming a coach, I think he would be a monster on the recruiting trails.
Schiano has done everything to learn from his mistakes. I think a team who hires him will get a good one. Here is an article about his comeback.

And maybe he was saying that Kifin is another train wreck guy that would be good for NU having him down there,I realize reading comprehension is lacking down in central Illinois but the question was, WHO MIGHT BE THE NEXT ILLINOIS COACH. Of course he was.And maybe he was saying that Kifin is another train wreck guy that would be good for NU having him down there,
My guess is PJ Fleck - due to his Illinois ties and the hell of a job recruiting he is doing at Western Michigan. Other thoughts?
Good points WCCF / Corbi - didn't think about Carey, he would also be a great choice.
GECat - re: coaching, Fleck did go 8-5 a year after 1-10, regardless of schedule and a loss to Purdue - that's not too bad.
