Whoa: PAC ## targeting SDSU and SMU

SDSU has a long history of desiring PAC12 participation. They try to play PAC12 teams as often as they can. The Aztecs have a lot of positives going for them- new football stadium in Mission Valley, excellent basketball program for decades now, and decent football program. They also have the legacy of Tony Gwynn with their baseball program. I think it makes sense with UCLA and USC off to the BigTen.

SMU is building a new addition to the open end of their stadium, It will house a new weight room, training table for all athletes, meeting room and facilities for hosting alumni and donor events. If they get a PAC bid they can add seats on the side opposite the press box seating

Tulane should be in play for higher profile opportunities. I was excited about NU playing them in 2024, but it may be a break if that gets cancelled, they will be a real challenge.

Just meandering out loud...does a conference make a program, or vice-versa?

On one hand I think SMU and SDSU are lowly sports brands for the mighty Pac-12 to be considering (but, sure...beggars can't be choosers...) - but 5-7 years from now it's not wholly unreasonable to imagine SMU cracking the Top 12 and getting a playoff berth and doing its part to keep the Pac-12 relevant.

Also...I will be interested to see what the conference landscape looks like 15-20 years from now - how long will programs like Florida, Texas, USC, and so on be content winning one conference title every 8-9 years, before they take another look at Big XII, Pac-12, etc. and see an easier path to conference titles and playoff berths? And will tv money still be as prolific?

SDSU is probably the next best option for college sports in SoCal, after USC and UCLA. They regularly go to bowls and are in March Madness. Definitely a step down, but they do bring something to the table. Not that different a profile from AZ State.

As usual, the PAC being a step or 2 slow.

Should have gone after Houston, BYU, SDSU and MSU from the start (really should have gone after OSU, KU, etc. when UT and OU announced their departure).

Shouldn't be a problem taking BYU if willing to take SMU.
