Why the Michigan Hype?

People wonder why a 4-1 Michigan team is getting so much press on the Big Ten Channel and the media, and we are not? Look no further than the almighty dollar. College football is about dinero. It is why Michigan, Penn State, OSU, Alabama and many other big programs will consistently be chosen over comparative lesser teams for bowl games, for prime TV spots and for media coverage. Read the attached article to see the resurrection of financial health that Harbaugh is bringing back to Michigan. It is why he is one of the highest paid coaches in CFB.

As for us and the resurrection of our program, we are 5-0 and our games are still not even sell outs! We simply cannot compare as a revenue generating football program...not even in the same sentence. It is what it is...we simply do not have as many fans, and not nearly as many die hard fans (present company on this board excepted of course!).

But we have a prime position as a member of the Big Ten with our own "sales pitch" and quite a good staff (despite the protestations of some). Our program is positioned well. We have a great group of young players.

But we have to work hard, every play, every game. And today, we have a chance to put down a stake in the growth of our program with a program defining win. Let's go out and beat Big Blue! Go Cats!

line is up to 10.5 now (was 7/7.5 last night). absolutely no respect for the Cats.

Michigan has not had a meaningful conference game of this magnitude in several years. No wonder the faithful are geeked.

Michigan is the winningest program in all of college football. Love them or hate them, their tradition is undeniable and hype comes with it.

We blew it in 2014.

We blew it in 2013.

We blew it in 2012.

Humanity has seen Michigan beat Northwestern...a lot. Even when NU has Michigan on the run, we've blown it. The last time we beat Michigan in 2008, most of the players in today's game weren't even in high school yet. 2008 isn't even a real memory to them. We still celebrate the 2000 victory...Michigan has basically done 2000 to us three times in a row...which is to say nothing of the myriad of other times they've beaten Northwestern.

So why wouldn't Michigan be double-digit favorites...at home...with a coaching upgrade?

I am very confident we can win today's game, just like we could have the past three years, but didn't. I have no idea if this will be the year Fitz and his staff figure it out (and I do put the last two years on the coaches...2012 was just a freakish loss)...against Harbaugh, who is no Hoke...I sure hope so, but if I were actually betting money on this game, at most I'd bet Northwestern to cover...because I've actually seen that with some regularity.

Bowl eligible halfway through the season...I wonder what that would be like?

Because Michigan.

Michigan got very little coverage over the last few years other than what their horrible coaching staff produced. They have earned what they are getting so far because they are getting better each week. They only gave up 17 to Utah who people are figuring out is a very good football team by now. Michigan is not great but they are way better than they have been in 7 years and yes even during Brady's 11-2 season. This poor mouthing by you guys cracks me up. Not ONE Michigan fan believes that NW is not worthy. They can beat Michigan and they have beaten Stanford and Duke who is a very good football team. Like him or not, Harbaugh is an EXCELLENT football coach so go ahead and ask the 49er's if they would like him back at this point. Win or lose, this Michigan team will wind up winning 8-9 games and beating either MSU or OSU or maybe both. The difference? JIM HARBAUGH

Harbaugh's a very good coach who's had success everywhere he's been. That's why. I can see us winning today or losing by 20. Nothing will surprise me about this game.

Ok, I'm surprised. Thought Michigan could pull away and beat us handily, but I didn't expect this. Michigan is a very good team with an excellent coach. Possibly the best team we'll see this year. This loss doesn't mean we're not good. Maybe we'll see them again in December in Indy.
