Why would a player stick around and not transfer?

We won't be competitive and may lose every game. The distraction and media circus will be a distraction. The program will be in turmoil and chaos for a while. We have a Head Coach who has never Head Coached at this level. The rules now allow for transferring with no real penalty or downside...

I'm not sure I understand why anyone would stick around? The top level education, maybe??? I wouldn't think that would be enough....

Maybe you could shed some light on how they could linger after trolling the board for years.

Definition of trolling for PKK - anyone with a differing opinion, especially if not 150% pro everything anyone affiliated with NU does.

Happy to wear the colors

Why do people stay in jobs with horrible bosses? Why do victims of abuse stay with their abusers?
Exactly. Warren Long and the others are not outliers in the world of abuse/harassment victims. Do I understand it? No, but I've never suffered as victims have. Over and over and over again we read or hear of victims acting in this way - not coming forward, not speaking up, staying with their abuser, etc. Why would "alpha males" not also act in this way after suffering abuse? They are human after all. I cannot judge any victim for the choices they make.

Sometimes you endure the pain and suffering because you know it will eventually be over and the future benefits will hopefully be worth it (i.e. Northwestern Degree and the cache of having been on a Big10 football team).

It's like how medical/surgical training was back in the day. You took the abuse because it would be over in 5 years and you became a trained physician when it was all done.

The OP was talking about current NU players sticking around given the turmoil with the program/university.

Yes. I meant why would anyone stick around NOW? Not why didn't those who were hazed transfer out in the past.... Although that's a an interesting question in and of itself.....

Timing, no where to go? Especially if they want to transfer to a good string academic school. Not many of those other there. After the season/year is when I expect to see transfers.
