This team is going nowhere, unfortunately. It's a very sad season, as we know, and the recent play is not providing any lift. Wish Coffey and Deary could go out on more of a positive note, but this trend is really downward.
6-5 in conference after today's game ends, with the way we are playing, and you believe we are locked into NCAAs?
Believe me, I hope you are right. I live in UCONN country, so it's just great to have another team (especially NU, of course) to root for in the NCAAs (which ends for everyone after UCONN dispatches of them). But, despite a favorable schedule, we know this NU team has lost games in the past that they should have won (mostly the same players are still around). I'd want to see more numbers crunched for other teams, but with all the teams bunched near them in the standings, they could realistically finish as low as 7-8th, with a tough first-round BiG tournament game, and that would not seem to cut it.
Disagree. The Big Ten is pretty lousy this year, our RPI is not in the Top 50, and we haven't really beaten anyone good this year. We COULD get there, but it's increasingly unlikely. They have not lost to any of those lower tier teams that they were supposed to beat. Trust me, barring serious injuries, they are in.

My original point is that we are playing poorly. (We were never in the game today). Therefore, IMHO, we will not get the double bye. We could easily go 2-3 (lose one unexpectedly); even likely 3-2 leaves us in middle of an average league. Then pressure to win a tournament game. It's either start playing better somehow or we are on the outside looking in to NCAAs.
How about we agree to revisit after the @MN game this week? Again, I hope they prove me wrong, but the trend (and just watching them play) says otherwise.
NU men just lost to a 3-8 team...
It's likely they will beat us - what I've been saying all day...
Fair point. We"ll see. If get the double bye, which is likely given our remaining schedule, do you really see us as a non NCAA team?
We lost to Penn State (a likely tournament team who Joe has NEVER beaten-- not even at GW--, without Kristen Inman and Indiana, who was a bubble team prior to today and absolutely HAD to win today or it would have been hopeless for them to have a shot at a double bye).
Before that we won 4 of 5 versus the exact same competition who we have down the stretch; at Minny (3-8 in the BIG) at Iowa (6-5, the only game left in which we might be an underdog and the only team left with NCAA aspirations), home vs. lolIllini (8 wins total this season), home vs. lot Rutgers (6 wins total this season, and we already destroyed them at the RAC), and at Purdue (6-6 BIG, but not nearly as good as their record might indicate, and whom we already throttled at home).
We have not lost to ANYONE with a 500 or below conference record yet, and now all of a sudden we are going to lose to 3 such teams? Don't buy it, not one bit.
We would have to win both home games (shouldn't be a problem, I wouldn't think) ... and then 2 of the 3 road games to have a shot. I don't see Iowa being a good matchup. Minny and Purdue should be better matchups, but I don't know that road games are gimmes, especially Purdue.
Can we agree that if we lose to Minny or Purdue, those would be really bad losses?
ALSO --- Any idea why Coach Joe is so awful against Penn State? Serious question. They used to be really good ... but they just aren't anymore.
Sure. There are plenty of reasons the team is emotionally spent. The question is can they raise it back up to do what's necessary to get in. There's a path to get there, for sure. I just don't know how much is left in the tank at this point. Hope I'm wrong!Penns state was bad last year, but they are about as good as us this year. They may be in the Dance as well. Add that to the fact that to the fact that Jordan's public memorial service on campus was this week (Joe spoke), I can certainly understand why the team's on-court performance would suffer.
No way in heck we win at Iowa or Purdue. This is an 8-8 conference team with no shot at NCAAs. Sorry to be right on this one because it's been a brutal, emotional, draining, injury-plagued season. But we're not at all good right now.Poor Nia. Played a phenomenal game, but absolutely no help tonight. Will be tough now as Minnesota was one of the easiest games left on the schedule

Mike - now you are proven to be currently trending in the wrong direction with your thinking on this team.
I don't consider having a reasonablly informed expectation (based on watching / following for years) of a loss as "piling on". We all want them to win every game. The differing analyses / opinions make this board more interesting. I will certainly be wrong soon (and hopefully this year for the women).
