Will NU get back to the Final Four? Inside NU has article that suggests we'll be back. Lots of sophs, a couple of upperclass players, and some good frosh coming in. To me, the unknown is the goalie - whether one of the two GK can come through. A hot goalie can make all the difference.

Lady cats were trailing 5 to 3, middle of the first half, then got hot, three straight goes to end the first half, another goal early in the second half, three of the four goals by Lasota, who has four goals so far in the game, now lead 7 to 3 early in the second half, the other goal was by Nesselbush. How can you not like a player named Nesselbush! We have two.

Now 8-6, Cats leading, we are ranked#5, Duke #4. 19:30 left in period two

Now 8-7, 13:45 left

Now tied 8-8, 8 minutes left, 2 goal lead went down the drain

Now 11-8, 5 minutes to go

It's over, Cats win 11-8!

Selena Lasota (whose shot has been compared favorably to all manner of heavy artillery) ends up with 5 goals. Freshman Mallory Weisse gets her first win in goal.

Love seeing the Lady Cats pulling out these tough wins. Lasota sounds like she could be better than Kjellman.

Has KHA and lacrosse lost their mojo? Say it ain't so!

It seems like other programs have learned to play more aggressively. Also, I think as KAH has recruited the typical East Coast lax players, she has gotten away from what made NU unique and different--recruiting pure athletes even if they had never played lax. She relies on star lax recruits now. Her original championship teams had some stars who had never played before but they were pure athletes.

Oh and it appears that we don't have a draw control specialist who dominates anymore. Makes it harder to get possession.

The Final Four is unlikely. At this point, the Cats would be lucky to make the NCAA tournament. That's how far the mighty have fallen... except NU hasn't really gotten worse; everybody else has caught up to the physical game and new, well-funded programs at Michigan, USC and other prominent schools threaten NU's return to prominence.

The recent loss to USC must really sting our coach, because the Trojans head coach is a former Cats star (Munday), as is the USC offensive coordinator (Leonard). OUCH!

Golden era was a matter of the right coach taking advantage of the right time period (about 10 years before women's lacrosse became a thing outside of the East Coast) and building a machine.
It will never happen again.
KAH is brilliant and I'm sure we'll get brownie points for our schedule, but the last 2 games will determine whether we can even make the NCAAs -- and I don't see it getting BETTER in the future.

Season now concluded. Positives: a winning record and made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. With the younger players maturing is everything else still in place to see the Wildcats back in the championship picture in the next year or two?

I say no. We had a monopoly on every talented player outside of the East Coast. Now Michigan, USC, Louisville, and other new programs are on the rise and suddenly we've become "the establishment" recruiting a lot of East Coast kids.

Yes, and I can't see us winning enough of those battles. The best will still stay east.
