Since the B10 conference is an academic and sports conference unlike all the other conferences except the Ivy League, Northwestern is not likely to be left out in the short term.

Academically, the ACC is nothing to sneeze at (especially with the addition of Stanford and Berkeley, and the affiliation with the Domers).

But the ACC is not an academic conference even if it has academically minded schools.
 
Duke, Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Boston College and Wake Forest are all fine schools. With Stanford and Berkeley being added, I think that the ACC is probably as academic as the Big 10.
Nope. The B10 has academic rules for facilitating research collaboration and the like. Only the Ivies have anything similar. My point is that the B10 being an academic conference and not just a sports conference is tied together much stronger than the other conferences.
