Second-half thread for NU vs. Rutgers

Our o line is getting pushed around on pass protection. It’s terrible. Our strength program is a failure.

That's not strength, it's technique. It's all about leverage and our RT, Slater got blown up on that drive because he lost leverage. Low man wins.

We made some plays on that drive. The protection from the OL varied from great to terrible from play to play. Bowser does show some promise. Now the D needs to make a statement, like in the MSU game.

Fitz is trying to end this game with runs and Rutgers not getting theball back. Not saying it won’t work, but classic Fitz move.

Bowser is the real deal! Asserting himself as the starter over Vault. We can win with Moten,Bowser, and Anderson! Sokid. Our run game will help our passing tremendously!

We clearly need to just burn Bowser's shirt and use him the rest of the way. (IIRC, today was his last game before losing that ability under the new rule.) Tough running.

as rough of a game as Gerak has had, he had a nice pancake on that rush by Bowser that got the first down, put him over 100 yards and locked up the W.

Congrats to the players for keeping the fight and getting a W

Bowser incredible again. Talk about yards after contact!

That's what Vault is unable to do is get yards after contact. Bowser is the type of runner we need to get yards between the tackle with our OL. It won't be this easy next week so I hope we don't have posters saying Bowser sucks next week if he struggles to replicate this performance against a very good Wisconsin defense.

One tendency I noticed at the game is we run laterally on 2nd and short. We lost yardage on a lot of second downs.

Yeah, those 2nd downs killed us. We had a number of 1st downs where we gained 5-8 yards and then went minus yardage on 2nd down.

Brutal. Even that 8 point drive, we did it once or twice and had to recapture the yards on 3rd and 4th downs...

Can’t believe we didn’t take the points either.

With our kicking situation, it's not like any field goal can be considered automatic. You have to factor that into the decision making.

This is what happens when you don't recruit any real athletes for your offensive skill positions. No big plays unless its a busted coverage like at MSU. Have to be perfect down the field instead of quick strikes that demoralize a weaker opponent.
It’s okay to win like that, though, taking what the defense gives you. The problem is not blocking well on passing plays when you’re trying to keep pressure off the qb and keep him upright at the very least.
