And how many other Power Five or whatever teams are on a similar drought? I can't imagine that there are more than 2-5 on similar droughts, though I think division of power tends to be a bit more rigid in women's hoops.

The women obviously don't get the publicity, but Selection (Monday) will be the culmination of ... a looooong time in the desert.

Credit to the team, and to those of you who have continued to follow that program over the years.

The women have made 5 NCAA Tournament appearances, the last was in 1997. Interesting question about how that compares to other power conference teams. If I have some free time I'll try to look that up.

The women's tournament has gotten so much bigger than it was when NU last appeared in 1997. With ESPN getting locked out of the men's tourney, they have greatly increased their coverage of the ladies and it has put them on a much bigger stage. Competitiveness has gotten much better too.

Re: Women's tournament droughts

I did some digging and it looks like the NU Media Guide is wrong, the women have made 6 NCAA Tournament appearances: 1982, 1987, 1990, 1991, 1993, 1997). The first NCAA Women's Tournament was held in 1982. The AIAW sponsored women's college basketball from 1972 until 1982, when the NCAA started sponsoring women's athletics and put them out of business. Both organizations held tournaments in 1982.

Here's what I found for appearances and droughts amongst power conference teams:

Penn St 25 2014
Purdue 24 2014
Iowa 23 2014
