This discussion started on another thread, but I think it deserves its own thread. My belief is simple:
A 100% graduation rate is an embarrassment to Northwestern University and Northwestern athletics. It is not something to celebrate.
Northwestern is an elite academic institution, but it also has a social mission. And part of that social mission is giving under-served and dis-advantaged kids a chance. If you are graduating 100% of your students, then by definition, you are not meeting your mission. We need to take chances on kids who may NOT make it to meet part of our academic mission. 100% graduation rate is an embarrassment because it means we are only taking 'lay-ups' and just pretending to meet the social mission.
