Everybody except Indiana, Washington, Minnesota and Rutgers is playing today.
Everyone is playing at home.
Only Ohio State is not favored by double digits... They have #19 Texas coming to visit.
Just for fun, which heavily-favored team is most likely to fail to meet "expectations" about the outcome of today's game....
These polls are limited to 10 choices, so I left the former Pac 12 teams out, along with the underdog Buckeyes.

Ohio State is not playing at home, that game is in Las Vegas.

My uncle the bajar is quite worried about his team this year, so I'll go with them absent any information on my end.

Despite Smith being predictabily and repeatedly louded as the second coming of Magic Johnson, Purdue is not looking like the expert predicted top team in the B1G so far against TX A&M CC.

It is amazing how the media picks their favorites in advance of the season and sticks with the narrative. I only watched the game briefly but understand Smith had a good fourth quarter. I am not rooting against the kid - I hope he does well - but I just don't get singling him out for other than being a good player and leader for Purdue. At the end of the game you would have thought he was a rock star the way the cameras were focused on him.

From the box score, he had 15 assists and 12 points. What I notice is three of the starters played over 30 minutes each and he other two played 23 and 25. That sounds like conference minutes to me, not a warm up game. It did end 73-90.

Wisconsin losing to Holy Cross at the half might lock this one up for them, though Purdue only being up 3 with less than 7 to play has to be up there as well.

TxAMCC had it to 3 well into the second half

The assists were definitely a big number. He definitely made his case that he is better than I give him credit for. Good for him. I wish him the best.

Wisconsin got decimated in the portal. I like Greg Gard. Good soul and coach.

A friend of mine randomly got paired up with Greg Gard and his son at a golf course in Florida a year or two ago...
He asked Gard what he thought about the portal...

"Three holes later he was done ranting about how horrible it is."

so last night we saw 14 Big Ten teams in action and they all won.
Of the 10 teams in the pop-quiz contest...

TeamSpreadFinal marginOutperformance
Northwestern15.544+28.5
Purdue21.517-4.5
MSU19.524+4.5
Maryland25.530+4.5
PSU19.542+22.5
Wisconsin25.524-1.5
Iowa30.522-8.5
Nebraska23.520-3.5
Michigan20.548+27.5
Illinois25.545+19.5

So Iowa "won" the contest by winning by 22 when favored by 30.5.
Our own Northwestern Wildcats outperformed expectations by more than any other team.
Three people had Iowa, so congratulations to them!
Four doubters picked NU to underperform the most, so BOOOOOOO to you!
Unfortunately, I can't see the names of the guilty.... Didn't expect that to happen.

Cappy, if you can see who picked Iowa, can you offer congratulations?

I have never understood why the school is called Manhattan when it is entirely in the Bronx. Good school though, passed it many times on the way to visit people or attend a branch of my church which is in Yonkers. Right by the 1 train and a huge park (approx. 50% bigger than central park). Deering Meadow times 50. There seems to be no rivalry with nearby Fordham which surprises me.

Oh well.

GO CATS!

Because Manhattan College (now University as of 2024) was originally in Manhattan. It moved to the Riverdale section of the Bronx in the 1920s. Also, Riverdale clearly thinks the Bronx is beneath them. The park to the east blocks it from the rest of the Bronx and gives the feel of not being a part of the Bronx. Yonkers is north of it, Manhattan is to the south and Jersey sits across the Hudson River to the west. In the mind of people from Riverdale, any of those places are better than the rest of the Bronx. It's sad they feel that way.

Intersting, thanks!
