2-4. Big win. Need to get to 11-9.

Wow there sure are a lot of "Northwestern fans" trashing our players.

Lets review...

Excuse: We're a losing program because Collins can't recruit enough talent because of admissions.
Counter-argument: Northwestern can win if Collins focuses his recruiting on the right type of player, instead of chasing five stars.
Surprise: Holy shit! We're winning with "bad players."
Crazy Conclusion: Yes we really do have bad players, but that proves Chris Collins is the greatest coach ever.

It is just so laughably illogical.

We’ve gone over this so, so many times. Denying that our academic standards don’t hurt us in recruiting is the most illogical thing here.

Let’s try this:

We’ve lost at Michigan, what, 5 straight times now. And do you think Collins is a worse coach than Juwan Howard? It’s their superior talent (and our lack of depth of talent) that has repeatedly beaten us.

Yes, in all of those losses at Michigan, Collins completely outcoached Howard and we just couldn’t overcome the overwhelming disparity in talent. Thank God we had Collins for all those games or we would’ve easily lost by 30+. Your never ending quest to canonize Collins is really old. He’s a really good coach, I don’t think anyone would disagree with that right now. He wasn’t always a really good coach. Your obsession with him is really strange.

Your obsession with trying to take me down is far worse than anything I say in his defense. Defending someone with cogent arguments who brings such value to my alma mater is a lot more noble than trying to tear someone down with disrespectful and dismissive comments.

BTW - I used an example that could have applied to any coach in NU’s history; Howard (by everyone’s account) stunk as a coach and yet we still couldn’t repeatedly win.

I’ll await a productive comment from you.

Why do you feel the need to say things in his defense when a defense is not necessary? I very rarely see anyone criticize him here. Everyone here thinks he’s a great asset for NU and is a very good coach. But you immediately get defensive when there is anything you construe as negative towards him. And the credit you give him makes it look like we have bad players and the only reason we have any success is because of him. I know you don’t feel that way but it really looks like it sometimes. I honestly sometimes think you’re his Mom or Dad.

I'd bet it is less about worshiping Collins and more about just really really wanting to be right.

NU killed Michigan last year.

Uh - it started with people wanting him fired. Since then, it’s a very small minority just trying to second guess every lineup choice and believe that our academics are an advantage.

I said at Michigan and check the stats.
What stats? Did we have less talent than Michigan last year. Are you attributing that blow out to CCC and home court? I was at that game, and NU would have beat Blue in Ann Arbor or on the playground with you or me Coaching. That’s how much more talent we had compared to Michigan.

Players win games. Coaches put players in position to win games if they are good. Teams will not be successful without both. Personally, I am a big CCC backer, anyone who reads this board knows that. However, he is not beyond criticism for some things. People aren’t automatically wrong because their opinion differs than yours. For instance, what if CCC brought in a competent big man and shooter for the rotation this year. 2-5 would be 5-2. Dusty May brought in the transfers. One or two bench players can literally make the difference between top tier and bottom tier.

This was a discussion about talent. We are 1-6 in our last 7 games against Michigan when Howard was the coach (for all games, I believe). CCC is not perfect, but my sense is that UM’s talent was the primary factor as to why they won more.
