This hasn't been the case in all the games, but in a handful of them at least - after free flowing and open first halfs with limited involvement from the officials, things have really bogged down in the 2nd half. It was most noticeable I think in Dayton, Hou Baptist, and Penn St. I really don't like it, it makes the game brutal to watch as almost every drive to the rim gets an automatic whistle and it turns into a FT shooting contest / game of who still has bodies left as opposed to real basketball. In addition, at times it seems quite one sided (against us in Dayton and PSU, in our favor vs HB).
Regardless of that last aspect though, I think we need to realize that if the refs start calling games this way in the 2H (Valentine I remember used to be notorious about doing it at the start of the 2H) then we need to adjust. Particularly when we have the lead, we need to stay aggressive and keep attacking. Because if the other team is continually driving, then they will essentially get free throws all half, while we are settling for lower % shots bc we aren't taking advantage of the disparity in how the game is called at different times.
Really I wish there was just some consistency in how games are reffed - both within and across the games... but barring that, which doesn't seem ever to be likely to sort itself out in college basketball, I think we should try a bit more to adjust to how the game is being called in terms of how we attack on offense. If they are calling it that tightly, then we need to drive to the rim more to take advantage of that rather than sit on our lead and keep cycling it back out to the perimeter to kill clock.
