Interesting and for me, gratifying. Why? Couple of seasons ago the Cats played an early-season 3-game series against U of Houston, and I saw them all. For some reason I started playing "fantasy scout," as if I were there to identify & evaluate individuals' talent. Trent was only a frosh and hadn't played a half dozen college games at that point, but he was one of two new players I tabbed as showing exceptional promise.
One of the two transferred after that year along with several others from the team, largely due to the jerk of a head coach NU had then. (It was only in February when they were in Houston and he'd already run off his staff of assistants.) But Liolios stayed ... and all credit to him. Surely he was tempted to bail on the program as well; who could blame him? He started out good and has gotten steadily better since.
Not to say that I have that much proven expertise as a baseball scout. In fact I'm inclined to quit while I'm ahead. As for Liolios, he's my big success story as a talent evaluator.
