I’ve been traveling on biz and have missed the game. The highlights are fantastic, but I’m curious...

I wish I could see a replay but don’t see one on BTN. Correct? Never mind-I found the replay!

Now that I can watch the game...feel free to offer opinions anyway,,,
Was this a different NU team or is Chicago State worse than last yr?
Would this NU team have beaten Creighton & Purdue?
Will the committee look at us being gassed when they “see” the Texas Tech loss?

Just looking for context, and bummed I missed it!

The first one is a both/and. Chicago State was genuinely horrible. However, we also played very well. Early on, we didn't miss open shots and we passed the ball often and well throughout. We played tough and energetic defense, when the starters were in and when they were out. Kept the pedal down.

Creighton and Purdue? Hard to say. We played better D, but the difference between Chicago State's offense and Creighton's is monumental. I'll go with we'd have beaten Georgia Tech for sure.

All our games count. The Texas Tech game won't be seen as a bad loss - a big loss, but mostly a big loss to a decent team. In that sense, it's bad because we were never in it.

All the games matter. Tech will matter more than this one.

Here's how I look at it:

1) hoping that this game gets Falzon going and out of his shooing slump. Let's see if it carries over to the next game. Fingers crossed as he could make a huge difference as seen yesterday.

2) defense has been improving each game this season. This trend needs to continue. Valpo will also be a good check on this development on Thursday. The shooting will not be there every night, but the D needs to be.

3) BMac has yet to fully find his game yet this season. He still has upside, IMO.

4) Pardon mid range jumper the last two games is a real nice surprise. If he can keep it up and maintain his confidence, this changes things in the offense.

5) Brown is showing more confidence in the last couple of games. Seems to be finding himself again. A positive trend.

Look, level of competition had a ton to do with last night, but there were also positive signs against PU. I don't think this team was ever going to roll through the B1G schedule, despite what I had deluded myself into believing before the season started. But, they are showing signs of being able to compete again, which is a big step forward from where they were in my eyes just a couple weeks ago.

1) This is a different NU team, and Chicago State is about the same team it was last year (346 in KenPom last year, 335 last year)
2) Based on how we played vs. Purdue(a top-10 KenPom team), we would have beaten Creighton with a similar effort. Few teams would have beaten Purdue the night we played them; it was an NCAA-Tournament level game on both sides
3) They won't look upon us as being gassed; the Texas Tech loss will only matter if we otherwise has a bubble-worthy resume. If we perform well in the BIG, the Texas Tech loss will be irelevent except for seeding purposes.

Good answers, thx. Just watched the 1st half. Probably seen enough. I like what I see, hope the intensity continues the rest of the way. BTW, why the he// do we keep playing Brown (the team)?! I’d like to drop that one!

Good question. Would love to see Harvard or Princeton (w/Mitch Henderson) come here instead. Obviously tougher games, but if we're going to play Ivy League teams, those would be much more interesting. Wonder how CCC would feel about that.

Falzon was the key! Six feet eight and his shot is a thing of beauty! Glad he found his shot! We are gonna beat MSU!

A bigger question could be why does NU play ever play Chicago State. Can't be the competition and they certainly don't bring many fans. So if it's because their program needs a boost, NU could make a donation to their school.

They play them for the easy win. NU isn't in the charity business, there is no way they could make a "donation" to a State of Illinois University. Everyone plays a combination of decent teams and cupcakes. CSU got got pasted by Purdue before playing NU. That's just the way Power programs rock.

I realize that but Chicago State doesn't put many fannies in the seats, so how about local schools, such as Loyola, NIU or even moving a step up to Marquette or Cincinnati?

Sec 112 explained it quite clearly last week: BC is gone, we’re scheduling only “the big boys now.”

Ya know, Chicago st, sacred heart, Loyola, st Francis, brown.......

With the move to 20 B1G games next season, I doubt you'll see more than 3 or 4 quality opponents among the 11 OOC games. DePaul seems to be an annual fixture, along with the B1G-ACC Challenge and the Gavitt Big East Challenge. I could see NU scheduling 1 more quality opponent in a tournament setting but the rest will be cupcake tune-ups for the B1G season. Collins will be loathe to wear his team out before the B1G schedule begins.

Yeah, cupcakes like Oklahoma, Texas Tech and Creighton. What's Holy Cross got, Coach C?

Our non con schedule is fine. Fact check it if you want but I’m pretty sure Chicago State plays most of the B1G for $. I just want to see a new, inspired NU squad.

I wouldn't be surprised at all to learn that NU keeps putting CSU on the schedule at least in part to help them out financially. NU agreed to play at CSU when they opened their new arena despite having no reason to do that, as I recall.

In fairness, in 2009-10 NU went 11-1 OOC against a schedule that included NCAA Tournament runner up Butler, Notre Dame, Iowa State, NC State and Stanford. And we won our pre-season tournament along the way.

That would not surprise me at all. Quite a difference between scheduling them to provide a payday for CSU, and just making a donation to the school as willy suggested.

Listen, I understand you're going to butcher whatever I say to make it work for your purposes. That's part of your jagoffian charm. I also know you have a problem with details. But, in your dogged pursuit of the gotcha, can we at least try to get the four words correct in your quote? Let's just start with that simple goal.

You understand the purpose of quotes, right?

Nowhere in my original post do I use those four words together. I don't even use three of them together. And I didn't even use one of the words in my entire four-sentence post.

But I understand your attention span is short, and I may have lost you somewhere in those four sentences.

Once again, good luck in your attempt to do ... whatever it is you do here.

Loyola is pretty good this year Just beat 5th ranked FL so not the cupcake we were looking for.

It wasn't a debate about what happened 8 years ago.
