Last night I wondered when it was, if ever, that we started out a season so well. Turns out my memory ain't as good as it used to be; it was just last year. And then I realized something. Numerically, we're essentially at the same point we were on January 13th last year: 14-4 (vs 15-3) and 3-2 in conference. Last year, in our sixth conference game, we proceeded to have our worst loss of the year, at home against Penn State. We followed up with a loss in a game we should have won at Maryland. That could have been the difference between making and not making the NCAA Tournament. Let's make this year different on all of those accounts!

A few of the differences from last year (and I'm relying on the amateurish eye test rather than stats): we're a better team defensively and we're rebounding better. We have more scoring options on the floor. All of those things bode well for the future compared to last year. And last year's results were more illusory - a very weak non-conference schedule. This year, more tests -- and four of our first five have been on the road.
