Before the scrimmage at AA, Collins said he wanted it to be a game-day rehearsal including all the arena goodies. So most everything seemed to be in place except a few things. For instance, the cheerleaders were there, the band wasn't.
Branding for everything was in place including static images on the outside signage and the expressway digital billboard. There are also some cheesy, generic NU banners in the rafters where the DePaul stuff was. No banners about last year's tournament or anything like that (and there shouldn't be). Just the purple logo and name in a couple places.
The one thing I thought was odd was that the main scoreboard above center court never had anything on it except a static NU logo. Meanwhile, the digital signage around the entire upper level seemed to work and change like any other game. For instance, players names and images popped up when each was announced. I assume there was some sort of glitch with the main scoreboard that will change for the regular season, but who knows.
A lot of things about AA are really bad, even compared to the past WR. Get ready for it. Personally, I just keep telling myself it's only one year. Throw out the ball, pay the front desk and I don't care about the rest of the stuff at our basketball Best Western (I won't go as low as Motel 6).
There's your over-analysis of the arena for the day. Is it time to play yet?
