One of my sons went to SMU. I have followed them a little for years. The current team is "fun" to watch, a little undisciplined but with an explosive offense. They destroyed #18 Pitt and Randy Bates defense Saturday. The week before their QB contributed 5 of their 6 turnovers and they still managed to win. I had always hoped they would be a B1G expansion team, opening the Texas market and introducing sundresses and cowboy boots to the conference. Their academic ranking is above about half of the B1G and they have the money to succeed. I believe SMU agreed not to take any ACC money for 5 years, so the ACC entered the Texas media and recruiting market at no cost. SMU's QB is an athletic gunslinger with other skill players contributing, despite losing their 3 top receivers and RB to injuries. I think they have a couple of cold weather games coming up against BC and Syracuse , so that may end their run but so far their only loss was a close 18-15 loss to undefeated BYU. Most of their games are on the ACC Network but NU fans should take a look to see how much fun, win or lose, can be , when your team can literally score from anywhere on the field

Ford Stadium was built with options to expand from 32,000 to 45,000. It cost $42 million and would cost $73 million in today's dollars. They recently added an end zone complex with offices and luxury amenities for alums. They had already completed a state of the art training facility nearby. SMU wanted back in big time FB and the ACC was the best they could do

SMU literally bought championship rosters before when it wasn't allowed, now that it is allowed they're very publicly like "THIS IS OUR DAMN MOMENT." I see no reason why they won't be frequently, maybe even consistently, excellent. Those alumni are rich and hungry and willing to spend.
