The P2 conferences have pushed for expansion of the CFP. The P2 will get 4 automatic bids, the ACC /B12 get 2 then 3 at large and one from non power 5.

The P2 conferences each get 29% from ESPN contract -about $21 million/school .

Pigs get fat-hogs get slaughtered

I dunno; the NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL have been around like hogs for generations and ... they've just gotten fatter.

Something tells me this ends up the same way.

Those leagues are professional leagues where the players are professionals paid by the teams, whereas the Big Ten and SEC are conferences of SCHOOLS with teams made up of students who have to go to class and are paid for their name, image, and likeness by third-party entities not funded by the schools.

From the scuttlebutt, it appears that the SEC will likely move to 9 conference games in addition to having a tie up with the B1G for OOC games.

The rationale behind getting 4 auto bids is that it returns focus on doing well in conference, with presumably the regular season champ and runner-up getting 2 of the auto bids with the other 2 being up for grabs in 2 play-in games (3rd seed vs 6, 4th vs 5th).

These moves maximize revenue (more big games which make the broadcasters happy) and further increase the gap with everyone else.

If this ends up being the case, would prefer it if the B1G doesn't expand and remains pat.

When things all come together, it'll be doable for the program to finish 6th or maybe even 5th and anything can happen in a play-in game.

Altho the Cats haven't had much success against the blue-bloods in the past 10-15 years and 2 of them will likely be the 3rd and 4th seeds most years.

On a side note, hearing NU being brought up more and more in the media (particularly sports talk radio) when it comes to programs that simply aren't competitive or may even be kicked out (the latter coming from National talking heads or those who focus on the B12, ACC, etc.) despite the Cats having had more top end success since 1995.

But having too many awful seasons (not to mention all those really bad losses) have negated all the good things the program has done over the past 3 decades.

Starting in two months, the players will now be paid directly by the schools themselves in addition to their NIL deal

I recently saw an infographic that put us ahead of a several B1G programs (IIRC, it was Maryland, Purdue, and Rutgers...possibly Illinois but I can't remember for sure) in terms of total wins for the past 10 years...for whatever that may be worth.

I'm definitely not as confident as I was X years ago that our seat at the table is unequivocally secure...especially as we have invited the Oregons, UCLAs, and Nebraskas to the table who may not be as deeply committed to the B1G communist party's ideals. My concern about the chatter from idiot talking heads and tweets is that it's gradually normalizing the belief we can or should be kicked out.

Having said that, college football, to me, still seems like it's on a collision course to implode. Even as we think revenue sharing will help quell some of the NIL stuff (something tells me it won't!)...the Big 2's inclination to exploit other schools and conferences with the unspoken threat that they'll just break off and do their own thing is fundamentally bad for business. And if the NCAA's idiocy has taught us anything, it's that a collegiate body should not assume its infinite absolute power to assert its will.

You sure about that. Seriously, the true student-athlete term has been gone for years

I can confirm it's still true at some places...but honestly, knowing that NU is one of them, I would rather consolidate those like-minded institutions and leave the others to play the semipro ball their fans absolutely want them to play.
