Assuming NU loses to Nebraska today (they are currently trailing by 19 in the 2nd quarter) it will be the 20th loss of the season. This will be the third consecutive season in which they have reached that milestone. Is there any hope Coach Joe can turn this around? Or is it time for him to go?

Thank Coach Joe for his service, but it's not just 3 20+ loss seasons we're on pace for but it is also likely 3 single-digit win seasons in a row. Women's basketball recruiting seems to have fallen off in recent years. NU needs a fresh leader for women's basketball with more energy and drive. Wouldn't mind Joe being around the program in some type of "emeritus" role, though.

Completely agree. Joe is a great guy and would be a wonderful ambassador for the overall athletic program.

We should try to hire Carla Berube, the current Princeton coach. She went to the D3 Final Four 4 times at Tufts, finishing second twice, and has had great Ivy League teams at Princeton with 2 NCAA tournament wins. Played at UConn on Geno's first National Championship team and has coached US National teams.

Nebraska kept their foot on the gas until less than a minute left, couldn't quite get to 100, but buried the cats with threes.

I think next year's team has some solid talent and skill in Harter, Lau, Sullivan, and Walton. But they need a better defensive game, whether that's the players or the scheme, I dunno, but I haven't seen more than four quarters of good defense all year in conference and they won't be competitive until they get that fixed.

Can Joe do it? Can he hire the talent to assist him? Can he recruit better talent to execute? It might be time to bring in a new crew.

I trust Jackson to conduct a comprehensive search and hire a great coach. I imagine there will be quite a few highly qualified candidates interested.

Are women’s college games longer than men’s? 4 quarters??

Looks like Joe is making $750k a year and this is his last season under contract. Hes a goner.

I thought I was hearing early in the year that the plan was that this was gonna be his last year. Did I hear or see that wrong? He is gonna be 69 in May

And to be clear, I meant across all the conference games I've seen this year. The Cats put together a really strong ten minutes in the second half of the Maryland game, and played well against PSU and Rutgers - but that was as much PSU and Rutgers being objectively terrible as anything else. I really like the kids and I'll miss watching the graduates play next year, but the defense man, the defense...

What is really a bad look, they forfeited their games to UCLa and USC by refusing to make that trip out their because of the wildfires that happened out their. Only team of any kind in the Big Ten who refused to ho. I am guessing that NU will have to pay those schools lost total revenue from gate and all other lost revenue . NU athletics, as a whole kinda gets a black eye for this.

4 ten minute quarters. Same minutes, more breaks?
The games are actually slightly shorter. Only 3 TV timeouts per half instead of 4. One at the first whistle under 5 minutes each quarter, then one between quarters. Fouls reset each quarter, takes 5 in a quarter to reach the bonus, no 1-and-1 just 2 shots like the NBA.

Often we don’t need to use our Time Outs at the end of the game.

Great suggestion…Berube looks to be a fantastic candidate. Checks a lot of boxes. Love the fact she won a championship at UConn.

From Daily NU article - looks like Joe is expecting to be around next season -

For coach Joe McKeown, the end of his team’s 2024-25 season prompted him to consider potential offseason improvements for the next campaign.

McKeown discussed how the game’s scope has changed during his coaching career postgame. He pointed to the increasing prevalence of the transfer portal and player compensation for name, image and likeness.

McKeown said he hopes to utilize his available scholarship spots to recruit three to four new players ahead of next season. Following a conference-worst 3-point shooting season, he added he will look to acquire new sharpshooters to bolster his roster.

“In our league, people just buy players, and you gotta play against them,” McKeown said. “I still want student-athletes and players that are going to bleed Northwestern.”
