I started a thread last year about his free throw issues. He came out of it last year so hopefully he gets his touch back. He goes through periods where he is always short on his misses. He plays so unbelievably hard. I would love to see him get his stroke back so scoring doesn’t require every ounce of energy he has.

His jump shot looks off as well. Like he’s backing away from the target and arming it more than shooting naturally. Could be a result of the foot injury…

Maybe. But like I said he went through the same thing last year. He is almost always short when he misses. Hope he has a stretch soon where his shots are consistently falling and the points come a little easier for him and the team.

Agree with the shooting, but man he gives you so much effort. I thought one of the plays of the game was early in the second half where he ran essentially from the baseline to track down a rebound near mid court and then I believe he scored after that. What a beast.

He’s tired, as he’s played a lot, and is relentless. When you get tired, especially in the legs, you start shooting the ball a little short. We’ve now seen this in the last few games, as the minutes continue to pile up. He missed so much of the preseason and early season games, it’s likely he couldn’t get the real base conditioning level he’d like and really needs, especially when playing as much and as hard as he does. We’ve got a real dilemma, because it’s so necessary for him to be on the court for us to win. Hope CCC can figure out how to get him a little more rest. Go Cats!

He finally started working back on his game in second half, A guy i my area indicated he thought in the past Barney was going straight up and then letting it go, Now he thought when up he tended to go back with the ball before he let it go.

I gotta imagine that he is dinged up and that is affecting his game

The FT panic started at MI. And he did not shoot FT poorly in that game. It was not great, but it was the timing, when he missed them, that stood out.

He'll get back to being a decent, if not excellent, FT shooter. I am more concerned he gets into the solid 30's on his 3's. It makes the game so much easier for him and the rest of the team.

Something about his wrist also.

All I know is you can tell clearly by his mechanics when a shot is going down and when it's not.

I just wish he'd hold back on the 3s a bit until he gets his stuff straight. He's almost shot NU out of a couple games. OTOH, a) Shooters gotta shoot (I think) and, b) There aren't a whole lot of other options - especially when NM is resting.

He's just not a catch and shoot three guy. He may add that to his skill set but it isn't there. The made three he had last night was so wide open he had time to reposition his foot, set himself, and line it up. And bingo bango it went it like a dream, because he can shoot. His turn around fade aways are similar. When he takes that extra half second to look at the rim before he releases, he is darned accurate. I think part of his shooting slump has been hurrying his own shot too much.

One of the things I saw a more of tonight, and I may be wrong, was both Brooks and Nick looking to pass out of the scrum at the net. Sometimes it led to a bad pass and turn over, but sometimes it led to a made three or a nice bit of ball rotation and better look at the rim.

At this point, we're lucky Barnhizer is such a competitor he's still out there on the floor instead of rehabbing. I'm sure he'll figure out how to shoot foul shots off one foot before the season is over.

Cannot imagine that was concussion. Nasal injury. My god Barnhizer utilizes northwestern medicine.
Barney should’ve been a hockey player. Lost his front teeth this season, could have a broken nose.. the dude takes Hard-nosed literally.

Meanwhile, in the B1G stat rankings, he’s fifth in scoring 18.5, third in rebounding 9.2, tenth in assists 4.3, first in minutes 37.5 and first in steals 2.6. The dude does it all. What a warrior.

His game is inside and then out. Over the last few games he has taken as many as 5 or 6 three pointers (missing basically all of them) before he has taken even a 2 pt shot let alone a real shot inside. That is not his game

He has a hitch in his free throw. It's bad when at bat and it's bad at the free throw line.

If that ankle injury is still bothering him, even a little, it can absolutely mess with a jump shot especially when tired. These guys are practicing free throws after logging heavy minutes and hard practices. Fatigue shouldn't be a major factor there. He's just in a shooting slump right now. The good news is, he impacts the game in so many other ways. Barnhizer's too talented to let this shooting slump derail him. He'll figure it out.

Anyone think we are gonna see the guy in one of those plastic masks for his nose? I feel it would be right up his alley.
I might be good to experiment with in a practice. I imagine his whole face hurts these days, that can't be good for playing aggressively in a crowd.

The word I have been passed is that Barnhizer's nose is not broken.
Essentially from a text chat of students/alums.
