Bet you didn't know that Troy Smith

Are you (collective pronoun) sure this isn't another FlaAlum "April Fool's plus 2" joke? This TMZ-like Deadspin prank has the suspicious aroma of a "driver FlaAlum with navigator GladesCat riding shotgun looking for a restaurant in the back woods nether-regions of Durham/Chapel Hill, NC" kinda thingie. Whatever items are said or directions provided by navigator Glades and interpreted by driver FlaAlum must be taken with a grain of salt the size of a cinder block.

anyone explain why DUI cases are so often butts of jokes?

Perhaps because those who drive drunk put others' lives at risk, so it frees you up to ridicule the guilty party without remorse. People also often say stupid and/or funny things when they're inebriated without realizing it at the time.

Yeah, Smith's responses was pretty much due to the amount he had to drink. If you do that you get what you deserve. While still wrong and just as dangerous when a kid makes such a mistake, no excuse for someone of his age.

The real issue is the lives of other people are endangered by drunk drivers. Go ahead and be foolish with your own life but don't put others at risk.
