This is a big recruiting weekend for the Wildcats as they attempt to get closer to finishing off their Class of 2016 and get a jump on 2017 with a host of visitors.

Three-star defensive tackle Jovan Swann will be the lone 2016 target on hand and the only one in the group on an official visit. Swann will arrive on Friday and leave on Sunday. That will enable coaches and players to spend quite a bit of one-on-one time with the 6-foot-3, 265-pounder from Greenwood (Ind.) Center Grove, the No. 44 defensive tackle in the nation.

Interestingly, Swann was a top target for the Wildcats in the spring and summer and even had NU among his favorites before the school’s interest in him cooled in the fall. Now, however, the Wildcats are making a strong late push to gain his commitment. They’ll have to beat out Stanford to get it, however. Swann has taken just one official visit, to Stanford, in early October. He calls the Cardinal his favorite but told WildcatReport that he is “still open in the whole recruiting process.”

In addition to Swann, there will be a host of 2017 visitors on campus to watch the Wildcats’ bowl practice on Saturday. There will be a lot of players on hand, but these are the biggest names:

- Jake Marwede is a three-star superback prospect from nearby Wilmette (Ill.) Loyola Academy, which just claimed the 8A state title last weekend. The 6-foot-5, 230-pounder already has six offers, including Arkansas, Illinois and Indiana. He is also a teammate of 2016 commit Eric Eshoo, who also played tight end for the Ramblers and will be visiting on Saturday as well.

- Kyle Nunn is a three-star athlete from Findlay (Ohio) whose only offer is from Northwestern and unequivocally put the Wildcats in his top spot after he visited for the Penn State game on Nov. 21. "It was definitely a great experience and I had a lot of fun," said Nunn, a 6-foot-3, 190-pounder who would play outside linebacker for Northwestern. "Everyone there was absolutely fantastic and great to be around. The campus was beautiful. I just loved the lake."

- Rashawn Slater is a three-star guard from Sugar Land (Texas) Clements who picked up an offer from Northwestern on Halloween. The 6-foot-5, 275-pounder also has offers from Illinois, Kansas and Wyoming but told WildcatReport that his interest in NU is “very high.” The reason? "It's one of the top schools in the country academically, and they're still playing at a high level on the field."

Nunn and Slater will be spending the night with a host player on campus. Marwede is not but probably will at a later date, since he lives on the North Shore, not far from NU’s campus.
