Bill Simmons' The Ringer covers our Cats

Interesting article. I would question the fact that the talent level now is that much better than the peak Carmody years. That 2011 squad had crawford, shurna, juice and an injured Coble. Is the current cat squad better than that team? Or is the BIG so much worse now?

Would think that the current squad has much better depth, which would have been even better if Falzon, Rap and the 13th guy were available.

Yes, you are probably correct that this team has more depth. However a starting 5 that has Crawford, shurna, cobble, juice would be the best NU lineup in my NU fandom ( 30 years)

One could make an argument for the but-for injury-riddled (along w/ a suspension) '12-'13 team w/ Crawford, Swop, Cobb, Hearn, Olah, Sobo and Marcotullio (w/ a young Demps and Lumpkin) as being the most talented of the BC era.

Maybe not quite the offensive punch, but a good bit better on D (esp. if the starting backcourt is made up of Cobb and Hearn).

Mentioning BC and D in the same sentence?

^ Yes, while D was by no means BC's emphasis, he still knew that it was an important part of the game; he just didn't have the horses until that season.

And not ironically, when CC took over, realized quickly that he had to win w/ D (so there were players towards the end of BC's tenure who had the athleticism to play D).

Please, Hearn was a late blooming, ok walk on, Swop a 5th year bench addition, Cobb was always injury prone and Sobo and Marco would have trouble getting off the bench with this squad. Also Collins is a better coach and way better recruiter.

Certainly from an offensive perspective. But the current team has shown that defense wins more games, so I am not sure if I necessarily agree. Law, Lindsey and Mac have become very good two way players. And no one on that team could have guarded Pardon.

As I said below, no big man on that 2011 squad and this squad is so much better on defense. The 2011 team would have been fun to watch, though, with everyone healthy.

Who gives a rat's-arse if Hearn was a walk-on?

Hearn had 2 pretty good years for the 'Cats (averaging 7.4 pts in 26 mins and then 13.4 pts in 33 mins w/ a .486 and .441 FG %) and could have returned for a monster season if he hadn't played garbage minutes as a frosh.

Guess who's putting up similar nos. this season for the Cats?

Vic Law - 13.6 pts in 32 mins w/ a .422 FG %

Or Lindsey w/ 15.4 pts in 31 mins w/ a .445 FG%.

Many say that Lindsey is a relative late-bloomer, but who frickin' cares?

And yeah, we know that Cobb was oft-injured, but that's not the point (which, not surprisingly, you missed.)

Of course, you would take something and then try to twist it around to serve your perverse needs/agenda.
