Braun and the new positions coaches have done a wonderful job and are deserving of our praise. The DL was supposed to be a dumpster fire. I feel like we truly came out on the positive side of the transfer portal by adding to our passing attack.
I would agree with the assessment that last year's gave up, I have always respected the "fight" in our under-manned squads but by the later half of 2022 there no fight. I was generally of the belief that anything that could go wrong went wrong last year. We had numerous injuries: Kirtz, Coco, Sully, Hillinski, etc. We couldn't "buy" a turnover last year - I know it requires skill but also luck, i.e. Tagovailoa's last pass was overthrown. We were "snake-bitten" last year and Hull's fumble in the end-zone against Duke was a real example to me. That fumble portended doom for the remainder of the 2022 season. I found solace by rationalizing the more injuries, turnovers, ineptitude would translate to a better team this year. Injuries force younger players to get involved. Turnover performance seems to drastically change between years. Ineptitude makes a coach hopefully revisit plays and personnel.
Football has too may variables to make simple comparisons but I believe the failures of 2022 made this team stronger and fun to watch again. I give everyone associated with team credit for not letting the hazing scandal destroy the potential in this year's team.
I just wish more fans would support them in person. Although I live in Florida, I will do my small part and make my annual trip for the Purdue game and hopefully add one last good experience at Ryan Field.
