BREAKING: Barnhizer's Northwestern career is over

So would the NBA. A sample size of 2 shots is meaningless. If had to guess im assuming he got his technical because the Wisconsin bench was telling him to shoot the three repeatedly. Opposing teams are begging for it.

I’m hoping Brooks realizes his best opportunity to make the NBA is applying for the waiver and if granted to come back for another year at full health.

Chase Audige made a terrible mistake last year not bagging another degree, getting 350-400k in NIL opportunities and playing on a team that makes the second weekend if Matt and Ty don’t go down. Pretty sure Chase is making peanuts somewhere in Europe now after riding the bench in the G League.

And to be clear, this is NOT a shot at Chase. He was on of my favorite players of this era but it’s been disappointing to see what happened with him.

Getting money to play basketball, not worry about school when you already have your degree to fall back on? Doesn’t sound like too big a mistake to me. Traveling around in Europe isn’t bad perk either.

100% agree. Returning to ncaa for a final year should be worth 500k-1mm to him? That Ballo guy on Indiana was rumored to get one million and you’d think Brooks is more valuable than that guy. Unless you’re a surefire first rounder it seems that sticking around in college as long as possible is the way to go. Not to mention you prob get noticed more than in Europe, you return as a hero to the NU community, and are beloved. People love Boo for returning. The same would be true for Barnhizer. Would love to see him back again. I would suspect the cats are trying to get him a waiver for either his first or fourth year. Europe will always be there. And a healthy ncaa year would demonstrate his health, also don’t forget Boo really improved his 3 percentage in his final year.

Looks like brooks played in 11 games his freshman season. How many games in ncaa basketball do you have to play in to burn a year of eligibility? I know for football it’s 5. What is it for hoops? Or do they even have a # of games.

NCAA Division I – An athlete must not have participated in more than three contests or 30 percent of their season schedule (whichever is greater) and not after the halfway point of the season (based on the number of contests rather than a particular date).

So no. Barnhizer is done at NU, which is why Collins said that.

Well that’s why people petition. The guy played 80 minutes of basketball in his first year. That is nothing. Perhaps it’s a long shot, but I’m willing to hope.

Had Chase stayed, would Langborg have come? Or would we still have had Langborg and he would have taken some of Ty's minutes? We would have been super-loaded at the guard position.

Anyone have any idea how long these waivers requests take to get some kind of ruling? I realize all this stuff is done privately but have no idea how this process works. Btw I have no idea if this is even happening but some of the X chatter suggests it is (realize this is not super reliable)

Current NCAA rules allow athletes in football to participate in 33% of games(max 4) but basketball is different. For basketball athletes cannot play in any regular season games without losing their redshirt. Players can apply for a medical redshirt at the end of their senior season but that would normally apply for someone who lost the majority of a season due to a medical issue/injury. Thus, it appear that Brooks doesn't really have a strong case to recoup eligibility for this season nor for his freshman year. Yes, he only played 11 games his freshman season but that was a coach's decision, not due to injury. My question is, why did Northwestern waste that year of his eligibility if Brooks was not going to be utilized more than he was?

It’s not as fun a lifestyle playing in Europe that you think. Jordan Taylor, former Wisconsin stud PG, talked about this on our game at Illinois. 8 hour bus rides, shared apartments, etc.
